About this role

We are seeking a Project Designer with 10+ years of experience to join our Houston office, bringing expertise and a passion for innovation. This role involves leading the technical development of projects, collaborating with teams, and ensuring the successful execution of design and construction documentation.

As a Project Designer on the Perkins&Will team, you will:

  • Be responsible for executing all aspects of the design process and project complexities to proactively contribute to the overall success of the team while adhering to firm and project goals and standards of excellence in design, execution, and living design.
  • Prepare schematic designs that optimize design solutions and plans
    with responsibility for presentation drawings, models, and narratives.
  • Understand overall project goals and constraints, including client values, construction and design budget limitations, and schedule requirements.
  • Evaluate design alternatives based on site and code requirements.
  • Apply knowledge of building technology, building materials,
    construction methods, costs, and code to the design process.
  • Understand and respond to technical implications and design decisions.
  • Prepare client presentation packages, external publications, and award submissions.
  • Participate in marketing opportunities and develops successful client relationships for continuing business.
  • Use graphic storytelling to advance the project delivery and scope.
  • Review work for accuracy, omissions, legibility, and for document compliance in accordance with the Project Delivery Manual.
  • Participate and collaborate in internal design reviews, charettes, and pin-ups and external community engagements.
  • Demonstrate strong and effective communication and direction which inspires high team performance and design ideas.
  • Mentors staff.
  • Coordinate effectively with partners and consultants throughout the schematic and design development phases.

 

To join us, you should have:

  • A professional degree in Architecture, Design, or related discipline
  • 10+ years of project experience
  • Proficiency in 2D/3D modeling, visualization, and graphic software; Revit strongly preferred
  • Ability to direct and coordinate work efforts of junior staff
  • Experience in all phases and aspects of a project
  • Familiarity with building codes, specifications, building and engineering systems
  • Understanding of project management process
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Collaborative and professional work ethic
  • LEED AP within 1 year of hire
  • Licensure required
