The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) seeks a part-time Digital Marketing Intern to work closely with the Associate Director of Digital Content on content creation and digital marketing initiatives with a focus on email marketing, SEO, and digital marketing content. This internship runs from September - December 2026 with flexible scheduling to accommodate academic commitments. The intern must be available 24 hours a week.

This position will receive a total stipend of $1,500, payable in 3 payments, on the condition that the student must receive college credit for the internship.

Essential Functions

  • Assist in executing PHS’s digital marketing strategy to support brand awareness, audience engagement, and lead generation.
  • Write and edit content for the PHS website and email campaigns with a focus on SEO best practices.
  • Conduct keyword research and collaborate on content calendars to ensure optimized, audience-driven content.
  • Support SEO efforts including on-page optimization, meta descriptions, internal linking, and content audits.
  • Interview subject matter experts and community partners to gather stories and develop engaging content.
  • Assist in email marketing efforts by drafting and sending email campaigns through MailChimp.
  • Work within a Content Management System (CMS) to publish and update website content.
  • Research and select appropriate images and digital assets using Canto, PHS’s digital asset management system.
  • Review analytics reports and support content performance tracking (Google Analytics, email reports, etc.).
  • Contribute to marketing and communications activities for major PHS initiatives including the Pop Up Gardens, Meadowbrook Farm, the Philadelphia Flower Show, and ongoing campaign promotions.

Education, Experience and Skills Required 

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or related field.
  • Rising Junior or Senior preferred.
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Interest or experience in SEO and content marketing (coursework, projects, or self-taught knowledge welcomed).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Familiarity with email marketing platforms, project management software, and CMS systems is a plus.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks effectively, and solve problems in real time.
  • Comfortable conducting interviews and translating information into engaging content.
  • Creative, organized, and flexible with a collaborative mindset.
  • Interest in horticulture, community engagement, or nonprofit work is a plus.
