Summary

The Physician Assistant provides advanced clinical care to patients under the supervision and collaboration of Peachtree Orthopedics physicians. This role is responsible for patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, clinical procedures, surgical assistance, patient education, documentation, and care coordination. The Physician Assistant partners with physicians, clinical staff, rehabilitation teams, and patients to ensure exceptional patient outcomes, continuity of care, regulatory compliance, and an outstanding patient experience.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive patient evaluations, including obtaining medical histories, conducting physical examinations, reviewing diagnostic studies, and developing treatment plans under physician supervision.
  • Diagnose and manage orthopedic injuries, musculoskeletal conditions, post-operative recovery, and other physician-directed patient care needs.
  • Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic studies, laboratory testing, imaging, and other clinical assessments as permitted by licensure and organizational policies.
  • Prescribe medications, treatments, and therapeutic interventions in accordance with state regulations, supervising physician agreements, and organizational policies.
  • Perform clinical procedures including injections, aspirations, wound care, dressing changes, suture and staple removal, casting, splinting, bracing, and other approved interventions.
  • Assist with surgical planning, pre-operative evaluations, post-operative care, hospital rounds, and operating room support activities.
  • Coordinate consultations, referrals, diagnostic testing, therapy services, durable medical equipment, and patient follow-up care.
  • Provide patient education regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, surgical procedures, medications, rehabilitation expectations, and injury prevention strategies.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation within the electronic medical record system.
  • Serve as a liaison between patients, physicians, hospitals, rehabilitation providers, and ancillary services to ensure continuity of care.
  • Participate in call coverage, hospital rounding, urgent orthopedic services, and clinic coverage as assigned.
  • Monitor patient outcomes and participate in quality improvement initiatives, patient safety activities, and clinical performance programs.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, OSHA regulations, CMS requirements, state practice acts, and organizational policies.
  • Collaborate with physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Athletic Trainers, Clinical Assistants, and rehabilitation staff to optimize patient care and operational performance.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities and implement operational efficiencies to enhance patient outcomes, patient satisfaction, and clinical effectiveness.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program required.
  • Master of Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS), Master of Medical Science (MMS), or equivalent degree preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of Physician Assistant experience preferred; orthopedic, sports medicine, surgical, emergency medicine, or musculoskeletal experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of orthopedic medicine, musculoskeletal disorders, diagnostic testing, clinical procedures, pharmacology, and evidence-based treatment practices required.
  • Experience with Athena EMR, healthcare technology platforms, and electronic documentation systems preferred.
  • Strong clinical assessment, communication, organizational, patient education, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced clinical environment while maintaining professionalism and attention to detail.


Supervisory Responsibilities

May provide clinical direction and oversight to Medical Assistants, Clinical Assistants, Athletic Trainers, and other assigned clinical support personnel. No direct employee life-cycle management responsibilities.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Current Georgia Physician Assistant License required.
  • National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) Certification required.
  • Current DEA Registration required or eligible for registration.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.


Physical Demands & Work Environment

Clinical role requiring prolonged standing, walking, patient examinations, clinical procedures, surgical assistance, hospital rounding, and frequent interaction with patients, physicians, and healthcare staff. Ability to lift, move, push, and pull up to 100 pounds may be required. Work is performed in clinic, Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC), hospital, and healthcare environments with exposure to bodily fluids, infectious diseases, and other healthcare-related hazards. The role requires the ability to respond effectively in urgent clinical situations while maintaining a high standard of patient care.
