PLGL Paralegal
About this role
PLGL Litigation Paralegal
PACS is seeking a Litigation Paralegal with two (2) to five (5) years of law firm experience defending skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) and residential care facilities for the elderly (RCFEs) in elder abuse and professional negligence litigation. This is a specialized role, not a general litigation paralegal position — candidates must have hands-on discovery experience in elder abuse/professional negligence defense matters to be considered. You will support the PLGL Legal team by working with and supporting Litigation Managers with case management, primarily in discovery. Main responsibilities include reviewing discovery requests, identifying documents to be produced, collecting documents, reviewing for relevance/privilege, and first review of discovery responses. You will be liaising with outside defense counsel and the facility, under guidance by the Litigation Manager. Primary venue is California. This position is remote or in-office in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Essential Duties
Coordinate responses to discovery requests, including responsibility for communicating with personnel and collecting and producing responsive documentation.
Identify, collect, and produce facility records specific to elder abuse and professional negligence claims — including care plans, MDS/RAI documentation, incident and witness statements, staffing and time records, and policies and procedures.
Generate regularly scheduled client reports, status updates, and ad hoc reporting as required by project parameters or upon request.
Assist in drafting responses to discovery
Own and oversee discovery activity including scheduling, maintaining status updates, document collection and organization, prompt communication with external counsel, and partner on issues and deadlines to Litigation Manager as appropriate
Attend meetings with external counsel and facility staff as necessary to complete objectives
Other paralegal and administrative projects as outlined by your supervisor.
Must be highly organized, detail-oriented and possess excellent communication skills
Education and/or Experience
2-5 years of experience in litigation defense with a required focus on elder abuse and professional negligence litigation against skilled nursing facilities and RCFEs (this is a required qualification, not a preference).
Medical malpractice defense experience is a plus.
Experience in discovery-heavy litigation essential.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, Other
Paralegal certificate desirable
Working knowledge of California's Elder Abuse and Dependent Adult Civil Protection Act (Welf. & Inst. Code § 15600 et seq.) and Code Civ. Proc. § 1430(b) required.
Familiarity with PCC and common documents requested in elder abuse lawsuits essential
