Requisition Summary

 

This position is located within the Advanced Controls organization at PTC and involves the integration of energy management and battery management systems (BMS) for next-generation commercial vehicles.  This includes analysis of functional and EE architectures for diverse electrified powertrains including battery electrical vehicles, fuel cell vehicles and hybrids. Additional responsibilities include interfacing with PACCAR divisions (Embedded Engineering, Kenworth, Peterbilt and DAF).  The person will also work with external research and engineering organizations that are partnered with PACCAR.

Job Functions / Responsibilities

  • Lead development and implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning solutions to enhance engineering, verification & validation (V&V), and manufacturing support activities
  • Develop AI-enabled tools, methods, and workflows to improve test automation, data analysis, anomaly detection, and validation efficiency across component, system, and vehicle testing environments
  • Integrate AI techniques into existing engineering and validation processes (including lab, HIL, and vehicle testing) to improve data utilization, test coverage, and insight generation
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve engineering productivity, test cycle time, and quality through practical application of AI-driven tools and automation
  • Develop proof-of-concept AI solutions and transition mature implementations into reusable tools and workflows for broader use within PTC and applicable PACCAR divisions
  • Apply structured engineering approaches to develop and maintain data pipelines, datasets, and models supporting AI-enabled analysis of engineering and validation data
  • Quantify and communicate the performance improvements, efficiency gains, and cost impacts associated with deployed AI solutions to support internal project evaluations and prioritization
  • Support documentation and reporting of AI-driven improvements, ensuring alignment with engineering deliverables, program objectives, and value realization tracking
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams (engineering, manufacturing support, and IT) to ensure successful integration and adoption of AI tools within existing workflows
  • Serve as a technical resource for AI applications within PTC, providing guidance and support to engineering teams adopting data-driven tools and methodologies
  • Work with internal stakeholders and external partners to evaluate emerging AI technologies and determine applicability to PACCAR engineering and validation activities
  • Communicate technical findings, tool capabilities, and implementation status to engineering teams and leadership on a regular basis
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes by incorporating data-driven and AI-enabled approaches where appropriate
  • Maintain awareness of emerging AI technologies and engineering tools, and apply them to improve existing methodologies and processes

Qualifications

  • 10+ years applicable experience in a related engineering discipline
  • Demonstrated experience developing and deploying AI/ML solutions or advanced data-driven tools
  • Strong technical background in programming, data analysis, and system integration
  • Proven ability to lead technical projects and coordinate cross-functional teams
  • Demonstrated strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Self-starter with high levels of initiative, innovation, and resourcefulness, consistent with expectations across engineering roles
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deliver results in a fast-paced environment

Desired Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in AI, Data Science, Computer Science, or related field
  • Experience applying AI in engineering, manufacturing, or automotive domains
  • Experience with large language models (LLMs), model context protocol (MCP), robotic process automation (RPA), and/or workflow automation tools
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms, data pipelines, and enterprise IT systems
  • Experience developing internal tools, dashboards, or AI-driven applications for business use cases
  • Experience influencing organizational adoption of new technologies
  • Experience collaborating in technical teams, including managing execution and fostering a positive working environment
  • Working knowledge of the software development lifecycle (V-cycle), including integration with requirements development, system design, and verification & validation activities

Education

 

Bachelor's Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) discipline required. Advanced Degree (Master’s or Ph. D) or planned path to attainment desired.
