Description

Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver EAP lessons to international pre-university students from a range of linguistic, educational and cultural backgrounds
- Remain sensitive to the expectations of different nationalities whilst encouraging an open and questioning approach to learning that leads students to become independent learners;
- Provide academic support for students, as appropriate, through consultations and tutorials, demonstrating a willingness to offer extra advice outside normal class hours;
- Develop and maintain an encouraging classroom/studio environment in which accepted rules of behaviour are consistently applied;
- Select, prepare and use teaching and learning materials appropriate for international students;
- Assess students throughout their modules, regularly creating, providing and marking both formative and summative evaluations;
- Provide detailed oral and written feedback to students and other stakeholders, for example, the Academic Manager or the College Director, as required;
- Carry out administrative and record-keeping tasks associated with teaching and assessment (e.g. accurate attendance records, student progress reports, lesson plans);
- Invigilate exams as required;
- Assist, or as appropriate, lead the development of module templates, handbooks, schemes of work, teaching resources, assessment materials and mark schemes/model answers;
- Contribute to programme development;
- May be required to undertake module leadership roles;
- Populate the VLE (Moodle) with relevant materials for students to access;
- Attend and contribute to college meetings and training sessions as required;
- Promote team spirit at all levels and ensure full communication with team;
- Assist with other duties as directed by line manager;
- Act as a positive ambassador for Oxford International;
- Adhere to both the University and College codes of conduct for staff;
- Engage in continual professional development and keep up to date with the latest developments in the field; and
- Participate in the annual Performance Development Review process.
Person Specifications
- Eligibility to live and work in the UK
- Undergo an Enhanced DBS disclosure check or overseas equivalent
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant topic
- CELTA / DELTA / TESOL
- A Master’s degree in a related topic (Desirable)
- A PGCE FE / PGCE HE / FHEA (Desirable)
Experience and knowledge
- Knowledge and experience of delivering high-quality, interactive and inspiring lessons using a variety of pedagogical methods
- Experience of teaching international students
- Experience of module creation and quality assurance practices
- Experience of teaching EAP subjects
- Previous teaching and assessment experience within a UK HE or FE institution. (Desirable)
- Experience of pastoral student care (Desirable)
