Social Media Manager

New York · Hybrid

About this role

We are looking for a creative and strategic Social Media Manager to join our team. This role blends audience insight, content planning and hands‑on execution to grow brand presence across social platforms. The successful candidate will shape voice and storytelling, drive engagement through timely and thoughtful content, and work closely with design, marketing and comms colleagues to amplify campaigns and community connection.

About the role

You will lead the planning, production and optimisation of social content across channels such as Instagram, X (Twitter), TikTok, LinkedIn and emerging communities. The role requires strong editorial judgement, a data‑driven approach to experimentation, and the ability to manage day‑to‑day community interactions while contributing to broader marketing objectives. You will own content calendars, align activity with campaign goals, and report on performance to continuously improve results.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a channel‑specific social strategy that supports brand and campaign objectives.

  • Plan, create and publish engaging content — including short‑form video, static posts, stories and live formats — tailored to each platform.

  • Manage the content calendar and coordinate with designers, copywriters and paid media to ensure coherent execution.

  • Monitor trends, audience conversations and competitor activity to identify opportunities and risks.

  • Respond to community comments and messages in line with brand tone and moderation guidelines.

  • Use social analytics to track reach, engagement, conversion and sentiment; produce regular reports and apply insights to optimise creative and posting strategy.

  • Lead A/B tests and iterative experiments to improve content performance and growth metrics.

  • Support influencer and partnership activity, coordinating briefs and asset delivery as needed.

Requirements

  • Proven experience managing social channels with measurable growth or engagement outcomes.

  • Excellent writing skills with the ability to craft concise, on‑brand copy and captions.

  • Strong understanding of platform conventions, formats and best practices across mainstream and emerging social networks.

  • Experience using social scheduling and analytics tools (e.g. Sprout, Hootsuite, Meta Business Suite, TikTok Analytics or similar).

  • Ability to work to tight deadlines, manage multiple priorities and adapt quickly to changing briefs.

  • Collaborative mindset with experience working across creative, paid and comms teams.

Nice to have

  • Basic proficiency in image and video editing tools (Photoshop, Premiere Pro, CapCut, Canva or similar).

  • Experience with paid social campaigns and audience targeting strategies.

  • Background in community management, influencer partnerships or brand journalism.

What we offer

  • A collaborative and inclusive culture that values creativity, curiosity and healthy risk‑taking.

  • Opportunities to influence our public voice and work on high‑profile campaigns.

  • Competitive salary, flexible working arrangements and support for professional development.

We are an equal opportunity employer and welcome applications from all individuals. If you require adjustments during the selection or interview process, please let us know and we will make reasonable arrangements.

Company at a glance

Owen is the parent company of several steel processing and fabrication companies throughout the Midwest. Our oldest division, PVS Structures, was founded in Omaha, NE as Paxton & Vierling Iron Works in 1885, and focused primarily on our foundry and structural products. The company eventually rebranded as Paxton & Vierling Steel (PVS) in 1954, and our logo has worn the badge of PVS ever since. In the 1950s the ownership broke ground for a new steel facility in Sioux City, Iowa that would be named Missouri Valley Steel (MVS). Concurrently, Paxton & Vierling branched into Service Center Warehouse sales in the 1960s, and eventually split off as a separate entity when it moved into more advanced steel processing in the late 1990s. This company is now called PVS Metals and resides in a state of the art facility in Carter Lake, IA. Owen's next focus was the northern tier, and a new plant called Northern Plains Steel (NPS) was built in Fargo, ND that also specialized in warehouse and metals processing. Our latest iteration is also in the northern tier and is called Northern Plains Finishing (NPF) that focuses on powder coating for OEM and other similar customers. Owen, a private company powered by over 400 dedicated professionals, believes that the best projects are those that view the customer and supplier relationship as a partnership, and that proper execution is one in which all parties can be successful.
