Job DetailsJob Location: AO-Huffmeister - Houston, TX 77065Salary Range: $18.00 - $21.00 HourlyThe DME Technician is responsible for providing quality patient care through the proper application, fitting, dispensing, and education of durable medical equipment (DME), casts, and splints as ordered by the physician. The DME Technician assists with maintaining DME inventory, completing required documentation, and ensuring the DME/casting area remains clean, organized, and compliant with established safety, infection control, HIPAA, OSHA, and company policies.
DME & Orthopedic Technician Duties
Apply and remove casts and splints according to physician orders and established procedures.
Fit patients with braces, boots, and other DME as ordered by the physician.
Provide basic patient care related to cast, splint, or DME use, including educational materials and instructions regarding the proper care and use of the device.
Provide patients with specific physician instructions related to their injury, condition, cast, splint, or DME.
Perform wound dressing changes as directed.
Maintain a calendar of DME pickups for surgery and custom-order patients and provide designated items upon patient arrival.
Complete daily paperwork, including superbills, policy letters, ABNs, LMNs, and other required documentation as needed.
Complete daily logs for DME items dispensed and casting procedures completed at each location.
Complete product returns and exchanges according to established procedures.
Dispense other medical devices, including bone stimulators, TENS/NMES units, and other DME as ordered.
Unpack and stock DME orders as they arrive at the clinic and provide appropriate packing documents to administrative staff for reconciliation.
Assist with monthly inventory counts.
Maintain a clean, organized, and properly stocked DME/casting room.
Follow established procedures and physician orders when providing DME and casting services.
Adhere to infection control and safety guidelines and confidentiality policies.
Maintain compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, Red Flag Rules, and other applicable policies and procedures.
Cross-train and learn other tasks within the EMR and inventory management system as needed to assist with department workflows.
Assist with invoice reconciliation for DME inventory items as assigned.
Report equipment, inventory, or DME-related issues to the appropriate supervisor or manager.
Travel between offices according to the established schedule, as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
QualificationsJob Specifications / Demands
Physical Demands
Requires prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a telephone, computer, and office equipment. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate information. Requires the ability to lift up to 40 lbs. on occasion.
Education/Experience
High School Diploma/GED or equivalent experience preferred. Previous experience in a medical office, orthopedic setting, DME, casting, or patient care environment is preferred.
Knowledge and Skills
Ability to learn and follow physician orders, established DME procedures, safety guidelines, infection control requirements, and company policies.
Communication
Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate professionally and effectively with patients, physicians, clinical staff, and administrative staff.
