Summary

The Mechanical Field Engineer will support the Ultrapure water (UPW) construction team onsite and support the team on oversight for all phases of building/ installing/ procuring/ starting and commissioning of the UPW system. The Mechanical Field Engineer plays a crucial role in our UPW system, bridging the gap between the design, office, and construction site. This position is classified as full-time and exempt.

Reporting Relationships

The Mechanical Field Engineer reports to the Construction Manager/ Deputy Construction Manager

Major Duties and Responsibilities

General Requirements

Can understand the UPW process from design through completion
Helps coordinate and assist with supervision of all Contractors pertaining to design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and closeout of the UPW system
Always maintains an appropriate level of communication with all team members and reports all issues immediately
Able to read and interpret blueprints (all trades) and specifications for advanced work layout and planning
Review and interpret schematics and other project documentation
Can work through conflicts and invites different thoughts and opinions
Analyzing issues and confident, thought-out decision-making
Ensures that the employee has the resources to complete their responsibilities, and if not, asks where to find them
Work with the team in developing schedules, work plans, and production reviews
Understands the correct sequence/ flow of work, the related constraints, and the interaction of site logistics

Leadership

Able to fully integrate with subcontractor teams
Is accountable for their required duties
Cultivates a feeling of energy, excitement, and optimism in team members.
Collaborate with stakeholders such as TSMC, subcontractors, system owners, engineers, technicians, and traders
Assist in developing and training team members to maintain a high-performance team
Demonstrates organization, time management, prioritization, and ability to meet commitments
Consistently meets work expectations with safety, quality, and productivity
Will work with Subs/ team members to work towards recovery plans if and when needed.
Participates in subcontractor interviewing and selections; assists with subcontractor contract language
Participates and leads in Trade partner meetings

Procurement Management

Demonstrates knowledge of procurement needs to maintain the schedule and notifies the team of potential impacts
Prepares, manages, and maintains procurement reports
Assists with scheduling and expediting materials, purchases, and delivery
Ensures materials arrive on time and meet Quality expectations and design documents
Collaborates with team members to define coordination priorities and establish a sequence to support the schedule

Quality

Performs constructability reviews and communicate and communicates issues effectively and immediately
Supports the management of design documents and the BIM process
Ensure compliance with codes, standards, and safety regulations
Ensures that installations are performed in accordance with master specifications, standard installation details, state and local codes 3.10
Assists with the development, review, and monitoring of quality assurance programs throughout the entire process;
Ensures that all trades have a clear understanding of quality expectations
Develops and manages lists of quality issues and tracks completions of items
Performs and facilitates first inspections, reviews materials received, and facilitates inspection processes
Ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards, including AWS, ASME, DVS and OSHA regulations.
Interpret and review blueprints, schematics, and specifications to verify project requirements.
Ensure projects meet stringent quality and safety standards
Preparation of daily, weekly, and monthly reports for clients and regular reporting.

Education

High School Diploma or GED required.
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Quality, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering or related fields preferred

Specific Roles and Responsibilites

Responsible for reviewing/ overseeing the construction of the UPW system in its entirety, ensuring compliance with engineering principles, safety regulations, and project specifications.
Assist the supervisor and monitor onsite construction activities to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
Work closely, collaborating with engineers, subcontractors, and construction managers to resolve any design or implementation issues that arise during the project.
Conduct regular inspections of construction work to ensure compliance with project specifications and safety regulations.
Maintain accurate records and reports related to the project, including documentation of progress, changes in scope, and any issues that arise during construction.
Provide technical assistance and support to construction crews, ensuring that engineering principles are applied correctly on-site.
The role is office and field-based, requiring most of the working hours on site. Time management of office work will be necessary for project meetings, planning, and reporting.
Ensure compliance with local and federal regulations and safety standards, often conduct regular safety inspections and implement corrective measures as necessary.
Strong problem-solving skills, effective communication abilities, and proficiency in CAD software for reviewing blueprints and technical documents.
Attend meetings with subcontractors and reports to the Construction manager/ Deputy Construction manager
Compare planned versus actual progress for each work scope at the site.

Job Requirements

Willingness to work 10 hour a day, 5 days a week during peak times.
During non-peak times, the schedule requires 8 hours per day, 5 days a week.
Flexibility requires working weekends and holidays as needed.
Possible out-of-state travel (for factory inspections, etc.) approximately 30 days per year.
This position is classified as Exempt, meaning employees are eligible for overtime pay for any hours worked over 40 hours in a week.
Overtime may be required during peak and non-peak times and will be compensated in accordance with applicable labor laws.

Skills and Qualifications

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills required.
Ability to create documents using Microsoft Excel and Word.
Proficient in interpreting blueprints, welding symbols, and industry standards; strong attention to detail and documentation skills
Team-oriented, safety-conscious, and proactive in identifying and solving issues
Experience working as a QC technician for a construction contractor at TSMC's Arizona factory, as plus.
Speaking Chinese or Japanese a plus.

Physical Requirements

Climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, grasping, talking, hearing, and standing for sustained periods of time
Strong visual acuity is required, with the ability to see small print, symbols, and measurements.
Ability to perform detailed work with high attention to visual accuracy, and the ability to identify potential quality issues.
Perform work at heights from ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, roofs, or other areas occasionally or as the job requires
