Overview

The Ontario Energy Board is currently seeking an energetic and collaborative individual to join our team as an Articling Student in Legal Services, for May 2027. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who likes intellectually challenging work in a collaborative environment that fosters innovation and creativity.  Under the supervision of the Articling Principal, the Articling Student will provide legal support and develop hands-on legal skills by working with a team of legal and other professionals across the organization in various areas of law.

Responsibilities

  • Support Legal Services in providing general legal advice and assistance on a broad range of matters including regulatory proceedings, applications, compliance, corporate governance, procurement, privacy, policy initiatives and other legal aspects of the OEB’s activities.
  • Participate in OEB hearings, mediations, and other regulatory processes, including the preparation of submissions, evidence, procedural materials, and hearing-related documents.
  • Support cross-functional initiatives by working with business units throughout the organization on legal, strategic, and operational matters.
  • Conduct legal research, analyze legislation, case law, policies, and regulatory developments, and prepare written summaries and recommendations.

Qualifications

  • Completion of the prerequisites required to participate in the Law Society of Ontario Articling Program 
  • Demonstrated Interest in administrative regulatory, public, and/or energy law
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, research, and judgment skills, with the ability to assess legal issues from both legal and business perspectives.
  • Excellent written and oral communication includes the ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly and concisely.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical, organization interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a variety of situations and within multi-disciplinary groups,  
  • Demonstrated initiative, professionalism, attention to detail, and a commitment to continuous learning.
  • Interest in developing practical legal, strategic, and client-service skills within an in-house legal environment.

Compensation: $45.00/hour ($84,825.00 annualized)

The OEB will provide Law Society Fee reimbursement (up to $5,055.00 with proof of payment) upon successful completion of the articling term).
