Financial Controller
About this role
About OLIX
AI is growing faster than any technology in history and the explosion in demand has created a massive infrastructure gap; we can no longer build chips or power stations fast enough to keep up. The industry is still leaning on a ten-year-old hardware blueprint that has reached its limit. A new paradigm that is faster and more efficient will be the biggest economic opportunity of the next century and create the most important company of the next decade. The OLIX Decode Accelerator 1 (DX-1) is the first accelerator architected specifically for decode. Rack-scale co-design of logic, data movement, packaging, optics and interconnect enables a step change in system level performance.
The Role
We're looking for a Financial Controller to help build and run the control, reporting, and accounting engine at OLIX during one of our most critical periods of growth. Reporting to the CFO and working alongside senior leadership, you'll be hands-on at the core of how we account for everything from production and capital to share options, payroll, and day-to-day operations. You'll be one of the people who makes sure the numbers are right, the controls are real, and the company always knows where it stands.
This is an early, formative hire into a finance team we're building from the ground up. You won't be running a mature machine; you'll be helping stand one up: owning a clean month-end close, producing reliable management and statutory numbers, supporting the selection and rollout of our ERP, and putting real financial controls in place as we scale toward public-company standard. You'll take on meaningful ownership from day one and grow your remit quickly as the company and the team grow.
The defining challenge is manufacturing. As we scale from prototype toward high-volume production, you'll help account for a physical supply chain, working closely with the engineering and manufacturing teams building much of the production system themselves, and make sure it's controlled, reconciled, and auditable. This isn't SaaS accounting; it's the harder, more interesting problem of putting rigorous financial control around a fast-moving hardware business.
You'll work closely with colleagues across finance, including our supply-chain finance specialist, and take on handover of existing processes as the team scales.
Responsibilities
Own the day-to-day running of financial operations (AP), month-end close, reconciliations, and the management and statutory reporting that keep the business in control as it scales.
Prepare accurate, reliable numbers across the business - covering all production activities, accounts payable, payroll, capital, share options, transfer pricing, taxes, and more.
Support the selection, implementation, and running of our core finance systems (ERP and supporting tooling), helping build lightweight, fit-for-purpose processes.
Help establish audit-ready controls and processes from the ground up, and lead our external audit.
Partner with our engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure production data flows through cleanly into accounting, controlled, and is both reportable.
Provide the clean, reliable data foundation that the FP&A and commercial side of finance depends on.
Take on broader ownership over time as the finance function, and your remit, grow.
Skills & Experience
Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent), ideally trained at a Big Four, now looking for a hands-on role in a fast-scaling business.
High horsepower and high energy: sharp, quick to learn, and able to reason to the right answer from first principles rather than lean on an established playbook. For us, attitude and raw ability matter more than years spent in one niche.
Strong technical accounting foundations and a high bar for accuracy and control.
Comfortable being hands-on in a small, flat team, owning your work end to end with limited support and infrastructure around you.
Fluent in today’s relevant accounting standards (IFRS / UK GAAP), and keen to learn more. We will be a global company with operations in many countries.
Keen to build: you want to help stand up a finance function and grow with it, not run a mature one on autopilot.
Nice to have:
Exposure to a manufacturing operation or physical supply chain. This matters more to us than chip- or hardware-specific knowledge, which you can pick up here.
Scale-up experience: you've seen a business grow quickly and know what "good" looks like without needing a big-company process.
Working awareness of US GAAP given our US production footprint (useful, not essential).
Experience supporting an ERP implementation, or standing up finance processes from scratch.
Semiconductor, hardware, automotive, or advanced-manufacturing background (Tesla, SpaceX, chip manufacturers, or similar are a plus).
Compensation & Equity
Competitive Salary: Commensurate with your experience, skills, and location
Equity & Ownership: Meaningful stock options. You’re not just joining the mission; you’re owning a piece of it
Proximity Bonus: We value your time. To minimise your commute and maximise your life, we offer an annual Living-Local Bonus if your residence is within 20 minutes of the office
Retirement Benefits: Employer-contributed retirement plans to help you build long-term financial security
Company at a glance
The latest generation of AI models achieves breakthrough performance by spending vastly more tokens to solve complex problems. Demand is now compounding faster than the infrastructure beneath it can scale.
The constraint sits in how tokens are made. Producing a token is not one operation but many, each placing different demands on hardware, yet every AI system in production runs them all on the same general purpose chip. Moving work between chips has always cost too much energy and time for anything else to be viable. That compromise is why the current approach cannot deliver high throughput and high interactivity at low cost, however large the single chip grows, and and why tokens remain scarce and expensive.
Continuing AI's advance, and making it available to everyone, requires the datacentre to be rebuilt the way every great factory has been built: as a production line, with specialised machines and fast, cheap movement between them. OLIX is building that production line: the token factory for frontier AI.
If you like working on the hardest and most consequential problems, we want you at OLIX. We are hiring across London, Bristol, Austin, Toronto and San Francisco. Check out our careers page at olix.com/careers.
