Job Description
Basic Purpose
Interpretive Guides facilitate educational programming, serve as guides for areas of interest within a state park or other tourism location, and maintain facility standards. This role requires a strong commitment to customer service, and physical labor in both indoor and outdoor environments. This is a seasonal, part-time, entry-level position.
Typical Job Duties
- Lead guided hikes or other outdoor recreation activities.
- Deliver educational programming.
- Plan and lead arts and crafts activities.
- Maintain trail upkeep, including repairs, within the park.
- Perform live animal enclosure upkeep, including care and cleaning, if applicable.
- Assist with routine groundskeeping and facility organization around Nature Center, if applicable.
- Greet and assist visitors with professionalism and courtesy.
- Engage with guests in informed interpretation.
- Assist in event setup and takedown.
- Complete daily opening and closing duties for Nature Center, if applicable.
- Prepares and submits required reports, evaluations and visitor surveys.
- Utilize Microsoft Office Suite as well as other software to complete various administrative tasks.
- Performs other duties as assigned to support daily operations and agency needs.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
- Physical requirements will include the ability to lead walking tours and navigate trails, regular bending, stooping, and carrying items up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions, including prolonged exposure to heat, humidity, sun, and wind.
Special Requirements
- Scheduled hours will require flexibility, including holidays, weekends, or events, based on the needs of the agency.
- Some locations will require a valid Driver’s License.
Some agencies may have determined positions in this job family to be safety sensitive as defined by 63 O.S. § 427.8.
