Design Engineer
About this role
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop fin and tube heat exchangers, coils, condensers, evaporators, cooling coils, heating coils, and related components.
- Prepare technical drawings, 3D models, BOMs, and manufacturing documentation.
- Select appropriate tube materials, fin materials, fin spacing, tube diameter, circuiting, headers, and connection details.
- Use heat exchanger design software and engineering calculation tools.
- Support product development, customization, and value engineering projects.
- Coordinate with production teams to ensure designs are manufacturable and cost-effective.
- Review customer specifications and prepare technical proposals.
- Assist in troubleshooting design, production, and performance-related issues.
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards, codes, and customer requirements.
- Work with quality teams to resolve non-conformities and improve product reliability.
- Support testing and validation of heat exchanger prototypes and final products.
- Maintain design records, calculation sheets, drawings, and revision history.
- Collaborate with purchasing teams for material and component selection.
- Continuously improve existing product designs for better efficiency, durability, and cost reduction.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, or Diploma in Thermal Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience in heat exchanger design, preferably in fin and tube heat exchangers.
- Strong understanding of heat transfer, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and HVAC/R systems.
- Knowledge of coil design, refrigerant circuits, air-side and fluid-side pressure drop calculations.
- Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Creo, Inventor, or similar.
- Ability to read and prepare engineering drawings and technical documents.
- Good understanding of manufacturing processes such as tube bending, fin punching, expansion, brazing, soldering, welding, and assembly.
- Familiarity with materials such as copper, aluminium, stainless steel, galvanized steel, and coated fins.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with heat exchanger selection or design software.
- Knowledge of HVAC, refrigeration, chiller, AHU, condenser, evaporator, and coil applications.
- Familiarity with standards such as ASHRAE, AHRI, ASME, EN, ISO, or relevant industry codes.
- Experience in design optimization for performance, pressure drop, noise, corrosion resistance, and cost.
- Knowledge of refrigerants, including low-GWP and natural refrigerants.
- Understanding of ERP/PDM systems and BOM management.
- Experience with prototype testing, performance validation, and failure analysis.

Experience Required
Minimum 5 years of experience in heat exchanger, HVAC, refrigeration, or mechanical product design is preferred.
