Shipping & Receiving Coordinator
About this role
Shipping and Receiving Coordinator | Nox Metals | Detroit, MI
Nox Metals is a Detroit-based technology company supplying aluminum plate, bar, and rounds to aerospace and defense manufacturers. We use software and automation to move metal faster than the industry thought possible.
We need a Shipping and Receiving Coordinator to own everything that touches our dock - every inbound mill load, every outbound shipment, every hot shot and parcel. This is a career-track role at a company built for long-term growth.
You will:
Own all inbound/outbound logistics (FTL, LTL, hot shot, parcel) and manage our CDL drivers plus carrier/broker/3PL relationships
Source, negotiate, and hold carriers accountable with a scorecard tracking on-time %, damage rate, cost per mile, and claims
Quote and schedule every load to hit customer commitments while keeping inbound material flowing without bottlenecks
Run forklifts/cranes when the dock needs it, and verify every load against POs and orders
Own shipping docs (BOLs, packing slips, cert packages), track shipments in our systems, and chase claims/exceptions to resolution
Build freight spend and performance dashboards, and constantly look for ways to improve lanes, carriers, and processes
You should have:
2-4+ years managing shipping/receiving in manufacturing, metals, or distribution
Deep fluency in FTL/LTL/hot shot/parcel logistics - carriers, rates, lanes
Strong carrier negotiation skills and comfort managing drivers and dock teams
Sharp with software/spreadsheets - able to build and run a freight scorecard from scratch
High ownership, low ego, precise under pressure, safety-first, customer-obsessed
Ability to lift 50 lbs, work non-standard hours when needed, and never say "that's not my job"
Nice to have: Metals/aerospace/defense supply chain experience, forklift/crane certification, TMS or carrier API familiarity, comfort using AI tools.
Full-time, in person in Detroit.
