Engineer Avionics Systems
About this role
Description
We are Northrop Grumman Australia (NGA). Our 800 strong team is leveraging unparalleled global resources to deliver sovereign Defence capability aligned to the Government’s priorities across Aeronautics, Mission Critical Systems, Space and Guided Weapons. As we build our business and our capabilities, we are also developing a reputation as a great place to work. Help us define what is possible for our nation and for your career.
The Role:
Supporting the KC-30A fleet, you'll work on engineering challenges that directly impact aircraft capability, availability and sustainment, helping keep one of Australia's most important air mobility and air-to-air refuelling capabilities available and mission ready.
This role sits within a small engineering team responsible for avionics and electrical systems, working closely with maintainers, engineers and Defence stakeholders to investigate issues, assess technical information and support ongoing airworthiness and engineering change activities.
The work is varied and often requires balancing technical problem solving with stakeholder engagement and decision-making. You'll gain exposure across sustainment, configuration management, continuing airworthiness and fleet support activities while working alongside experienced engineers who are willing to share knowledge and help you develop.
This could suit an early-career engineer looking to build on a solid foundation around their passion for aviation, or someone with aviation experience who enjoys being close to operations and solving practical engineering problems.
Australian Citizenship, NV1 security clearance required, or the ability to obtain and maintain. Candidates with Baseline clearance are encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting the ongoing airworthiness and sustainment of KC-30A avionics and electrical systems.
- Investigating technical issues, in-service events and supportability challenges affecting the fleet.
- Working with maintainers, engineers and Defence stakeholders to develop practical recommendations and solutions.
- Managing the delivery of engineering changes and modification activities.
- Assessing technical information, contributing to configuration management, engineering governance and reporting requirements.
- Supporting continuous improvement initiatives that enhance aircraft reliability, availability and maintainability.
About You
You might be an Avionics, Electrical or Mechatronics Engineer with a few years' experience, or you may already be working in aviation, sustainment, technical services or a maintenance support environment.
We're interested in people who:
- Have a genuine interest in aviation even if you haven’t worked in this area.
- Have a degree in Avionics, Electrical, Mechatronics or a related engineering discipline.
- Enjoy working through operational engineering challenges and seeing outcomes implemented in the real world.
- Can confidently engage with stakeholders and communicate technical information clearly.
- Are comfortable working in an environment where priorities can shift and not every problem has an immediate answer.
- Take initiative, ask questions and actively build their understanding of the broader picture.
- Bring experience from aviation, Defence, aerospace, maintenance, sustainment or other operational engineering environments.
- Hold, or are eligible for, Engineers Australia membership.
