Specific Responsibilities for this Role
- Performing the work, which is assigned, ensuring that it meets all standards as required by ISO 15189:2022/EIAC Standards/JCI/regulatory bodies (DOH/DHA/MOH where applicable).
- Perform Blood Draws: Collect blood specimens from patients using venipuncture, capillary, or fingerstick methods.
- Patient Identification: Verify patient information and ensure correct labelling of samples to avoid errors.
- Prepare and Maintain Equipment: Ensure all necessary tools and equipment are sterile, organized, and properly functioning.
- Patient Comfort and Care: Ensure a calm, safe, and comfortable environment for patients, addressing any concerns or anxieties.
- Maintain Cleanliness: Follow proper hygiene protocols, maintaining cleanliness in work areas and equipment.
- Record and Document Information: Accurately document patient information, procedures performed, and specimens collected.
- Transport Samples: Safely and efficiently transport specimens to the appropriate laboratories for analysis.
- Follow Safety Protocols: Adhere to all safety guidelines, including the handling and disposal of biohazard materials.
- Monitor Patient Reactions: Observe patients during and after procedures for any adverse reactions and report concerns to supervisors.
- Communicate with Medical Staff: Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and laboratory technicians to ensure accurate and timely results.
- Maintain Confidentiality: Protect patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA guidelines regarding personal health information.
General Responsibilities
- Work in all shifts as scheduled by the Laboratory Director.
- Strictly adheres to organization’s regulations and policies especially those related to infection control, patient safety, OSHAD, DOH, JCI and ISO.
- Supports Continuous Quality Improvement and participates and contributes to all the quality assurance activities of the service.
- Participates and contributes to scheduled in-service training programs.
- Exercises effective interpersonal skills in dealings with department staff, associates and Management
- Maintains confidentiality as per the agreement signed.
- Demonstrates the ability to listen to others in promoting effective communication.
- Develops thorough understanding of policies and procedures of the hospital and demonstrates respect for them.
- Carries out other duties when requested by the Laboratory Director
