About Lihir
Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team. Lihir offers a range of recreational facilities, including a gym, sports club, restaurant, bar, swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, and a 9-hole golf course. Purpose
To provide mechanical engineering support for safe and efficient plant operations by delivering fit for purpose designs, driving reliability and delivering cost effective maintenance and improvement projects.
Essential Duties
- Providing Mechanical Engineering support to the site’s production and maintenance teams.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve reliability, reduce downtime, and lower lifecycle costs.
- Undertake Mechanical design tasks from concepts through to execution.
- Delivering OPEX projects within budget and time constraints. This includes conducting engineering trials on assets to achieve extended life.
- Participating in CAPEX projects as part of a stakeholder.
- Monitor plant performance metrics and collate engineering reports.
- Analysing losses and conducting investigations using Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) standards.
- Assessing criticality of assets and developing, recommending, and implementing strategies for improving equipment reliability.
- Champion Change through Management of Change (MOC).
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to tradesmen, planners and junior/ graduate engineers.
- Working collaboratively with personnel across all business units.
Training & Experience
- A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, or related fields.
- Registered IEPNG member would be an advantage
- Project and Asset management Experience
- At least 5 years of experience in mining or related industry
- Knowledge of Fixed Plant systems including crushers, conveyors, grinding mills, flotation, tanks & tailings.
- Ability to provide mechanical engineering support to Fixed Plant Assets.
- Must have CMMS experience - preferably SAP.
- Have practical understanding of crushers, conveyors, grinding mills, flotation, tanks, and tailings systems.
- Effective organisation and planning skills
- High attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under less supervision
- Mechanically minded, self-motivated, result driven individual with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Working Conditions
This role is offered on a 21/21 Fly in, Fly out (FIFO) roster from multiple locations in PNG to Lihir island.
