Your role

Reporting to the Sustaining Capital Projects Superintendent, in the permanent position of Project Lead you will support Sustaining Capital project execution and ensure seamless project delivery for the Tanami mine operation in alignment with Newmont strategic objectives.

Key responsibilities

  • Project manage the end-to-end delivery of sustaining capital projects on site and ensure work is executed safely, efficiently, and in line with approved scope, schedule and budget
  • Develop and implement detailed project plans and coordinate labour, equipment and materials to meet production and operational targets
  • Monitor project performance against key milestones and provide clear and timely reporting to site leadership on progress, risks and outcomes including developing cost estimates and schedules and manage once the project is approved
  • Achieve forecast accuracy of 90%+ month-on-month and deliver on the financial year commitments for each project
  • Oversee contractor and subcontractor activities and ensure compliance with site safety standards, statutory requirements and quality expectations
  • Drive a strong safety culture by enforcing HSE policies, conducting site inspections and promoting proactive hazard identification and risk management
  • Identify and resolve project and operational issues quickly, minimise downtime and maintain continuity of mining activities
  • Facilitate effective communication between operations, maintenance, engineering teams and contractors to ensure alignment and seamless execution
  • Mentor and support team members and new starters in site procedures, project delivery standards and safe work practices
  • Identify, assess and manage risks across all project phases and implement mitigation strategies in line with site and corporate risk frameworks
  • Manage projects from inception through to successful execution and handover including preparing and presenting business case and investment documentation to apply for capital funding
  • Manage all project lifecycles including design review workshops, writing decision memos, flagging issues to direct line managers and showing a strong accountability for your projects.

Yours skills and experience

  • Degree qualification in Engineering with postgraduate Project Management credentials
  • Demonstrated mine operations project engineering experience including sustaining capital project delivery
  • Proven team leadership of multi-disciplinary site-based teams
  • Project management skills including resource coordination, risk management and stakeholder engagement
  • Knowledge of Health, Safety, Environmental and Sustainability standards and regulations related to the mining industry
  • Skills in project planning, tracking, monitoring, data management and reporting
  • Full and unrestricted eligibility to work in Australia.

Your work environment

Newmont has fully owned and operated the Tanami mine since 2002. The mine operates in the remote Tanami Desert of Australia. The mine and plant are located on Aboriginal freehold land that is owned by the Warlpiri people and managed on their behalf by the Central Desert Aboriginal Lands Trust. Tanami is a fly-in-fly-out operation in one of Australia’s most remote locations. Tanami is 270 km from its closest neighbours, the remote Aboriginal community of Yuendumu.

This permanent position will be based on-site at the Tanami mine located in the remote Northern Territory working on a fly in fly out roster of 8 days on/6 days off from Perth, Darwin, Brisbane or Alice Springs. Mine village accommodation will be provided.
