Newmont Suriname was established in 2004 as an entity of Newmont Mining Corporation and is headquartered in Paramaribo, Suriname. Located in South America, Suriname was originally settled as a Dutch colony, is very culturally diverse and enjoys a tropical climate. The Merian Project is located approximately 60 km south of Moengo in a largely undeveloped part of the country with the nearest permanent settlement, Langa Tabiki, approximately 17 km east from the Project site. Strong support from host communities and the government of Suriname strengthen Merian's ability to deliver safe, profitable production with significant upside potential and opportunity for employees, host communities and shareholders.

Dimensions
Purpose

Execute allocated work programs and technical exploration project work specific to the site or exploration program.

Essential Duties
  • Conduct quality in-field inspections and interactions. Participate in incident investigations when required
  • Review and understand all relevant SOPs, standards, and guidelines. Updating of SOPs as required.
  • Execute exploration programs; including program design, drill core logging, drill contractor management, drillhole summary reporting, geological interpretations, modelling, field mapping/sampling and follow-up recommendations.
  • Monitor drill progress and conduct QAQC on survey data (immediate action required where discrepancies identified).
  • Support the planning and scheduling of exploration activities over weekly to monthly timeframes.
  • Provide recommendations to adapt short-term exploration plans in response to geological results and field conditions.
  • Assist in monitoring exploration performance against established KPIs, providing weekly progress reports and recommendations for follow-up
  • Complete work program proposals and work program summary reports.
  • When required, conduct reviews of business partner timesheets in a timely manner.
  • Conduct routine quality database QAQC - QAQC on assays.
  • Provide technical mentorship and training to Geologists, Geologists-in-Training and core shed technicians to support skill development and consistent practices.
Training & Experience

Knowledge:

  • Professional Geological Science degree
  • Advanced Understanding of Ore Deposit Models
  • Structural geology, geochemistry, geophysics and geotechnical principles
  • Lithology, Alteration, and Mineralization Identification and classification
  • Project Management fundamentals in an Exploration Setting
  • Intermediate Communication and Scientific Report Writing Skills
  • Exploration Management and Planning Fundamentals
  • Drilling Program Management in Collaboration with Business Partners
  • Relevant Regulatory Frameworks and Compliance Requirements

Technical skills:

  • Exploration Program Design and Execution Competency
  • Geological, Geochemistry, Geophysics Data Interpretation
  • Data Analysis and Insight Development
  • Proficiency with Geological Modeling and Visualization Software (Leapfrog, Deswik, Acquire)
  • Technical Report Preparation and Scientific Writing Proficiency
  • Clear Verbal Communication in Technical and Operational Contexts
  • Presentation of Geological Findings to Technical and Non-Technical Stakeholders
  • Synthesis and Communication of Key Geological Messages for Decision-Making
