Purpose

The Process Plant Electrician I will work as part of a team that safety performs electrical installations, testing, commissioning, troubleshooting and repair of electrical equipment to ensure continuous operation all at the Newmont gold processing plant.
The role will involve performing preventative and corrective maintenance tasks, identifying areas of improvement to minimize down time and ensure compliance with site electrical standards.

Essential Duties
  • Participate in safety meetings and encourage a safe work culture by making safety the top priority in each job performed.
  • Perform work using hand/power tools, test equipment, calibrators and other instruments typical to electrical maintenance tasks.
  • Perform low voltage isolations and test for dead.
  • Carry out preventative maintenance tasks as per developed work instructions to ensure safe and reliable operation of LV & HV electrical equipment.
  • Perform portable appliance and ground fault interrupter (GFCI) testing
  • Perform troubleshooting and repair faulty equipment.
  • Carryout electrical installation work and ensure installations are tested and compliant site standards.
  • Monitor field conditions in work areas and advise supervisor where maintenance or other attention is required.

Training & Experience

Knowledge:

  • High School, Secondary School (MULO/HAVO/VWO/LBO)
  • Plus a technical diploma (NATIN/AMTO/IMEAO, trades, or special studies certification

Experience:

  • Minimum of two (2) years working in the electrical industry for the Electrician I
  • Experience in mining, utilities or other heavy industry is highly regarded.
  • High Voltage experience, including switching of voltages up to 13.8kV would be an advantage.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to read and write in Dutch and English at a good standard.
  • Ability to read, understand and complete field forms (i.e. inspections, JHA, daily reports).
  • Basic computer skills including the ability to use MS Excel and Word.
  • A strong commitment to work safety.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Ability to learn increasingly complex tasks, systems and processes and a continuous desire to learn and develop further.
  • Ability to formulate a structured, logical approach to maintenance activities and problem solving.
  • Basic mechanical understanding and the ability to use hand & power tools.
  • Understanding of electrical theory principles.
  • Ability to use electrical measurement instruments.
  • Report to supervisor if field parameters are outside normal range or trend.
