Newmont Suriname was established in 2004 as an entity of Newmont Mining Corporation and is headquartered in Paramaribo, Suriname. Located in South America, Suriname was originally settled as a Dutch colony, is very culturally diverse and enjoys a tropical climate. The Merian Project is located approximately 60 km south of Moengo in a largely undeveloped part of the country with the nearest permanent settlement, Langa Tabiki, approximately 17 km east from the Project site. Strong support from host communities and the government of Suriname strengthen Merian's ability to deliver safe, profitable production with significant upside potential and opportunity for employees, host communities and shareholders.

Purpose
The purpose of this internship is to develop foundational knowledge and practical skills in mine engineering according to the learning objectives in the internship plan.
Essential Duties
- Assist in haul road and stockpile design activities using relevant tools and engineering guidelines.
- Support short-term mine planning tasks, including preparation and review of weekly and monthly plans.
- Monitor and track plan vs. actual performance, highlighting variances with guidance.
- Compile and organize mine planning data and ensure accurate documentation.
- Assist in generating basic reports and visualizations to support operational decision-making.
- Apply safe design practices in haul roads and stockpiles under supervision, considering operational and environmental factors.
- Support adherence to mine design standards and safety requirements.
- Contribute to identifying potential operational risks through plan analysis (with guidance).
- Follow all site safety procedures and sustainability principles in daily activities.
Training & Experience
Knowledge:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mining, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline at Anton De Kom Universiteit van Suriname
- Preferably in 2nd year or above (or equivalent stage of study)
- Exposure to mine planning, mine design, or related engineering coursework is advantageous
- Strong academic performance in mathematics, engineering analysis, and technical subjects
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis, tracking, and reporting
- Interest in or exposure to mine design and planning software
- Ability to analyze and interpret operational data with attention to detail
- Basic understanding of engineering drawings and layouts
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to compile clear and structured reports
- Good communication skills for technical information sharing
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage and track data effectively
