Newmont Suriname was established in 2004 as an entity of Newmont Mining Corporation and is headquartered in Paramaribo, Suriname. Located in South America, Suriname was originally settled as a Dutch colony, is very culturally diverse and enjoys a tropical climate. The Merian Project is located approximately 60 km south of Moengo in a largely undeveloped part of the country with the nearest permanent settlement, Langa Tabiki, approximately 17 km east from the Project site. Strong support from host communities and the government of Suriname strengthen Merian's ability to deliver safe, profitable production with significant upside potential and opportunity for employees, host communities and shareholders.

Purpose
Support metallurgical improvement initiatives and operational excellence projects through technical analysis, fieldwork, sampling, reporting, and process optimization activities.
Essential Duties
- Assist with metallurgical accounting and process performance monitoring.
- Support sampling campaigns, laboratory test work, and operational data analysis.
- Assist with reagent optimization, cyanide control, grinding performance monitoring, and gold recovery improvement initiatives.
- Support troubleshooting activities and continuous improvement projects within the process plant.
- Demonstrate compliance with site safety standards, environmental requirements, and operational procedures.
- Participate in workplace inspections, risk assessments, and safe work practices during field activities.
- Promote responsible and sustainable operational practices.
Training & Experience
Knowledge:
- Final-year student in Bachelor Mineral Geosciences, Chemistry, or related technical discipline at Anton De Kom Universiteit van Suriname
- General understanding of digital transformation concepts (value delivery, adoption, operating rhythm, and continuous improvement).
- Foundational understanding of enterprise data and analytics concepts (data quality, definitions, lineage/traceability, and reporting reliability).
- Awareness of governance principles (roles, decision records, standards, and accountability mechanisms).
- Awareness of responsible data practices (privacy, access, and appropriate handling of sensitive information).
- Understanding of organizational dynamics and stakeholder management basics (how to capture needs, align expectations, and communicate clearly)
Technical skills:
- Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Basic data analysis and reporting skills
- Understanding of metallurgical sampling and process monitoring
- Basic understanding of mineral processing principles
- Willingness to learn operational and reporting systems used within the process plant
Operational:
- Ability to work safely in a mineral processing plant environment
- Ability to perform field inspections, collect samples, and gather operational data
- Ability to interpret trends and support troubleshooting activities
- Ability to support technical reporting and documentation activities
- Ability to lift and carry samples up to 15 kg in a sample backpack
- Ability to work in areas requiring climbing stairs and accessing elevated platforms
