Newmont Suriname was established in 2004 as an entity of Newmont Mining Corporation and is headquartered in Paramaribo, Suriname. Located in South America, Suriname was originally settled as a Dutch colony, is very culturally diverse and enjoys a tropical climate. The Merian Project is located approximately 60 km south of Moengo in a largely undeveloped part of the country with the nearest permanent settlement, Langa Tabiki, approximately 17 km east from the Project site. Strong support from host communities and the government of Suriname strengthen Merian's ability to deliver safe, profitable production with significant upside potential and opportunity for employees, host communities and shareholders.

Purpose
To support the evaluation and validation of environmental analytical methods in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025 requirements.
Essential Duties
- Support determination of analytical method performance characteristics including Limit of Detection (LOD), Limit of Quantification (LOQ), accuracy, precision, recovery, linearity, and measurement uncertainty.
- Assist in collecting, organizing, and analyzing laboratory data.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records and validation documentation.
- Support preparation of technical reports and summary presentations.
- Adhere to all laboratory safety protocols, environmental requirements, and Newmont standards.
- Participate in safety meetings, inspections, and risk assessments as required.
- Support environmental monitoring initiatives through reliable analytical testing practices.
Training & Experience
Knowledge:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related discipline at Anton De Kom Universiteit van Suriname
- Foundational knowledge of chemistry, environmental science, analytical science, or a related discipline.
- Understanding of laboratory quality management principles and analytical testing concepts.
- Awareness of ISO/IEC 17025 requirements and laboratory accreditation principles.
- Basic understanding of statistical analysis and data interpretation.
Technical skills:
- Knowledge of analytical laboratory techniques and instrumentation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis, trending, and reporting.
- Basic statistical analysis skills.
- Technical report writing and documentation skills.
- Familiarity with laboratory information management systems (LIMS) is advantageous.
Operational:
- Ability to follow standard operating procedures and laboratory work instructions.
- Accurate data recording and document control practices.
- Sample handling and preparation knowledge.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
