Boddington is a flagship Newmont gold and copper operation in Western Australia, located about 130 kilometres south-east of Perth and 16 kilometres from the rural town of Boddington. Your Contribution

As a Geotechnical Engineer - Operations, you will play a critical role in supporting safe and efficient open-pit mining by providing timely geotechnical guidance to technical services, Production Engineering and Mining Operations. You will monitor ground conditions, assess geotechnical risks and recommend practical solutions that maintain pit stability and operational continuity. Working closely with cross-disciplinary teams, you will contribute to design reviews, hazard management, and continuous operational improvement while adapting plans to changing field conditions. This is a hands on, collaborative role suited to someone who brings strong technical capability, sound judgment and a proactive approach to supporting daily mining activities.

As Part of Our Team, You Will
  • Providing operational guidance on pit development and implementing practical controls to manage geotechnical hazards.
  • Conducting daily inspections, interpreting monitoring date (radar, prisms, VWPs), and recommending remedial actions to maintain safe mining conditions.
  • Liaising with work groups to communicate hazards, schedule mitigating activities, and adapt plans and field work as conditions change.
  • Contributing to design reviews, operational improvements, and QA/QC reconciliation to enhance pit wall performance and geotechnical outcomes.
  • Upholding departmental standards by delivery quality outputs, engaging proactively, seeking feedback and stopping unsafe work.
Prerequisites for Success in This Role
  • Tertiary qualifications in Geotechnical Engineering (Mining), or Mining Engineering/Geology with geomechanics, plus operational geotechnical experience in hard-rock open pits.
  • Proficiency in geotechnical instrumentation, monitoring, data analysis, slope stability, and risk -mitigation practices, including the use of radar, prisms, VWP data and QA/QC reconciliation.
  • Experience with geotechnical modelling and analysis software (e.g., GEM4D, MineSight, Vulcan, Deswik, Rocscience suite, Trajec3D) and strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
  • Highly organized, self-motivated and detail-focused, with the ability to work independently or collaboratively while applying sound judgement and following procedural requirements.
  • Strong communication, teamwork and collaboration skills, with self-awareness, the ability to build - productive relationships, adapt behaviour, and give and receive feedback effectively.
