Your Impact:
  • Undertake field inspections, safety audits, incident investigations and hazard identification to inform operational leadership decision making.
  • Support operational and functional leaders to effectively identify and manage safety risks to eliminate fatalities, injuries and illnesses.
As Part Of Our Team You Will:
  • Conduct field inspections, workplace examinations, and safety audits to identify hazards, verify critical controls, and ensure compliance with site standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Partner with Infrastructure Supervisors, Engineers, and Contractors to effectively identify, assess, and manage operational and project-related risks.
  • Support the implementation and continual improvement of Newmont's Always Safe strategy including the full implementation of the underground irrespirable atmosphere fatality risk standard
  • Deliver hands-on safety coaching and training to site personnel, demonstrating standard methodology and proper use of safety equipment, including Pre-task hazard assessment, general risk assessments, Event Reporting and 5 Why investigations.
  • Execute safety protocols and procedures tailored to on-site conditions, ensuring all staff are trained and compliant with these guidelines.
  • Support and influence site/project frontline Leaders in safe execution of work and engaging workforce to improve H&S.
  • Coordinate OHS Representative or equivalent programs.
  • Support LOD1 assurance programs for H&S standards and processes.
Your Training, Skills & Experience Checklist:

Formal Qualification (including Professional Registrations):

  • Tertiary qualification in Health and Safety or Engineering.
  • National Examination Board of Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) General Certification in Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Senior Health Safety and Environmental Officer’s Certificate of Competency from the Minerals Commission of Ghana.
  • Class B Ghanaian Driver’s License.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in mining health and safety, with demonstrated experience supporting underground operations and infrastructure, fixed plant, projects, utilities, or maintenance operations.
  • Experience supporting critical underground infrastructure such as ventilation systems, pumping and dewatering facilities, fuel farms, explosive magazines, electrical substations, compressed air installations, workshops, and service bays is highly desirable

Additional Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of statutory health and safety requirements related to underground infrastructure.
  • Experience supporting commissioning, construction, or infrastructure projects in a mining environment.
  • Sound knowledge and experience of risk management and loss prevention processes.
  • Relevant regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Communication and Influencing skills.
  • Health & Safety Investigation processes.
  • Risk assessment processes.
  • Change Management fundamentals.

Technical Skills:

  • Ability to assess risks associated with UG pumping stations, fuel facilities, explosive magazines, electrical installations, compressors, and surface infrastructure
  • Foundational proficiency in managing and applying operational risk management processes.
  • Foundational level of proficiency in project management.
  • Foundational proficiency in analysis of data to monitor and predict performance.
