Role description
The In-Service Inspection Discipline Leader is responsible for the technical coordination of the team devoted to definition, specification and design of monitoring and inspection system for newcleo LFR and other nuclear projects.
The role ensures management of instrumentation, mechatronics, R&D, materials and methodological activities to ensure the safety of operations.
Operating with high autonomy, the role provides technical leadership within the discipline, supports project execution, and ensures alignment between design intent, manufacturability, and operational requirements.
The position could also be based in Lyon (France) or Aiken (South Carolina - US)
Main activities
- Lead the technical development of In-Service Inspection coordinating the proper Team
- Accountable to the Head of Unit (HU) about the Technical Contents and Quality of all deliverables within own technical discipline of the Engineering Unit
- Advise to the HU to review a detailed Engineering Design Plan relevant to all activities within own technical discipline of the Unit, along with a complete List of relevant Deliverables
- Support the HU for the operational direction within the Disciplinary Section of the Unit: resources management (including task allocation, workload management of the unit, recruitment, performance evaluation, development and training
- Responsible for the correct implementation of the Engineering functional procedures and legislative requirements compliance within the Disciplinary Section of the Unit
- Support to HU for the management of the function SQEP process within the Disciplinary Section of the Unit
- Responsible for delivering all tasks within own technical discipline of the Unit in accordance with the efficiency (technical and quality) objectives
- Responsible for the quality of engineering output ("Technical Engineering Authority") within own technical discipline of the Unit in terms of adherence to standards, legislation and contractual requirements
- Support the HU for the implementation of External Entities (Regulators, Clients…) comments and Design Changes within own technical discipline of the Unit
- Support the HU for the checking and approval of the scope readiness for engineering design process stages within own technical discipline of the Unit
- To provide guidance of procedures, codes and standards which are the most applicable for the development and substantiation of the design development within own technical discipline of the Unit
- Responsible for the approval of the engineered solution matching the functional, design and safety requirements, and chair of compliance reviews, when delegated by HU, within own technical discipline of the Unit
- Responsible to define the logic and priority for the delivery of the technical documents, when delegated by HU, within own technical discipline of the Unit
- To escalate issues and seeks advice from the upper managers when encountering complex/multidisciplinary problems
- To support continuous improvement initiatives on a day-by-day basis relevant to the own technical discipline of the Unit
- To contribute for estimates relevant to activities (engineering menhours/procurement costs) of the Unit. Procurement costs in conjunction with Supply Chain Unit
- To support the HU to identify impacts (scope of works and costs relevant to his discipline for contract execution) from External Entities requirements
- Responsible to define trainings program pertaining to the Disciplinary Section of the Unit
- Accountable to apply the company procedure of Quality, Environmental, Health and Safety System and Organizational Model
- To support technical discussions with External Entities
- Foster collaboration across mechanical, electrical, automation, and systems engineering teams.
- Promote a strong culture of safety, quality, innovation, and technical excellence within the discipline.
Desired qualifications
- Degree in Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineering or equivalent in physics, materials, non-destructive testing
- Master or PhD is a plus
- Experience in coordinating teams dealing with engineering aspects related to component and equipment inspection methods and procedures, ideally in the nuclear industry.
- Knowledge of inspection methods in a nuclear environment in general and non-destructive testing in particular (ultrasound, eddy current, visual inspection, etc.).
- Experience in a nuclear or other highly regulated environment and a good understanding of safety aspects.
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in an engineering unit in any company/institution with at least one of the following activities: non-destructive testing; nuclear inspection or monitoring services; metrology services.
- Knowledge of applicable standards for In-Service Inspection of nuclear equipment (e.g. AFCEN RCC-MRx, RSE-M, ASME Section XI, ENIQ, IAEA relevant guidelines)
- Good understanding of manufacturing processes, assembly, and system integration constraints it is a plus
- Experience working with suppliers and managing technical interfaces in complex engineering projects
- Exposure to nuclear or highly regulated environments is strongly preferred
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical activities within a discipline or subsystem scope
- Experience resolving complex integration or design issues across engineering domains
- Familiarity with the U.S. regulatory framework
- People management across different Country
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English (CEFR C1+)
- For Italy based roles: fluent in Italian (CEFR C1+), French is a plus
- For France based roles: fluent in French (CEFR C1+), Italian is a plus

- Salary range Italy: RAL 53.000-69.000 €. To be defined based on the selected candidate’s relevant experience.
