Job Description

The New York City Office of the Actuary (NYCOA) provides actuarial services to the City’s five actuarially funded Retirement Systems and other funds, including Variable Supplements Funds, Tax-Deferred Annuity Programs, life insurance funds, closed pension funds and the New York City Health Benefits Program. In addition, the NYCOA provides actuarial information – pension and Other Post-Employment Benefits (OPEB) to employers, City and State legislative bodies, labor organizations, oversight agencies, and active and retired members.

The NYCOA seeks an experienced secretary to perform and assist in clerical work throughout the agency. Under direction, with varying degrees of latitude for the exercise of independent initiative, the selected candidate will:

- Assist other clerical staff in performing multifaceted secretarial, document creation and processing;
- Clerical duties for the Chief Actuary and other leadership team staff;
- Typing highly complex statistical reports and correspondences involving tables, charts, and document formatting;
- Scheduling meetings;
- Answering telephones and reception duties;
- Interfacing with high-level personnel both internal and external to City government;
- Performing data entry in citywide systems.

Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and one year of satisfactory secretarial or administrative experience; or
2. An associate degree from an accredited college or university and two years of satisfactory full-time secretarial or administrative experience; or
3. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and four years of satisfactory full-time secretarial or administrative experience; or
4. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1", "2" or "3" above. However, all candidates must have a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and one year of secretarial or administrative experience.
