Who You Are:

  • You have a desire to work with multicultural staff and youth in a diverse setting.
  • You can provide basic services and promote a safe, clean and supportive atmosphere within the center in collaboration with the Drop-In team.
  • You are someone who can assist with de-escalation and role model dispute resolution as well as restorative justice practices, risk management, and appropriate boundaries.
  • You can perform outreach services to youth in the Drop-In Program and during community outreach, including the distribution of food, drinks, clothing, PPE, hygiene supplies and other basic needs items.
  • You work to create a space that reflects the tenants of Positive Youth Development & Trauma Informed Care, while reflecting the diversity of the youth we serve.


What You'll Do:

  • Engage – In this role, you will experience the ability to meet youth at many different stages of change, facing a variety of different challenging experiences due to intersectionality and oppressive systems. The Day Services Coordinators strive to facilitate access to any and all resources that a youth may need by focusing on relationship building and building community connections.
  • Collaborate – This position provides you with the opportunity to collaborate with various teams within New Avenues, as well as partners in the Homeless Youth Continuum (HYC) and in the community. You will get the opportunity to work with natural support systems as well as be a part of creating larger community through various facets.
  • Reduce Harm – In this role, you will be able to apply harm reduction practices that support youth wherever they may be in their stage of life. The Day Services space strives to be a safe, welcoming, and low barriered space where youth can build connections, get referred to services, and pursue their goals.
  • Be Youth-Centered – This work is grounded in positive youth development and motivational interviewing principles, which centers youth as the experts in their lives. It emphasizes culturally responsive approaches, understanding the impacts of trauma, and approaching work with empathy.

 

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of the lifestyles and culture of youth experiencing houselessness preferred
  • Relatable lived experience a plus

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. If the position may require the use of any personal protective equipment, New Avenues will have such equipment on hand for the employee’s use.
