About this role

Supportive Roommate Needed for an Independent Adult Male

New Age Services is seeking a compassionate, reliable, and supportive individual or family to provide a Supportive Roommate home for a 50-year-old male who is transitioning into his first Supportive Roommate living arrangement.

This individual has a strong level of independence and is able to complete personal care tasks such as dressing, grooming, and personal hygiene independently. He enjoys maintaining an active lifestyle and benefits from encouragement, structure, and support in managing daily responsibilities and community involvement.

About the Individual

The individual has been diagnosed with:

  • Developmental Disability
  • Organic Brain Disorder
  • Seizure Disorder
  • Kidney Disease
  • Hungry Bone Syndrome

He previously lived independently with scheduled staff supports and currently resides with his mother, who is also his guardian.

Support Responsibilities

The successful applicant will provide guidance and assistance with:

  • Household management and cleaning
  • Meal planning and meal preparation
  • Establishing and maintaining daily routines
  • Medication management and monitoring
  • Community participation and recreational activities
  • Building and maintaining social relationships
  • Financial management and budgeting
  • Scheduling, coordinating, and attending medical, dental, and healthcare appointments when family members are unavailable
  • Supporting a successful transition into a new living environment

Program and Schedule

  • Attends a Community Access Program with NAS every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
  • Requires a supportive, stable, and structured home environment.
  • Ongoing collaboration with the individual's family, guardian, and support team will be required.

Home Requirements

Non-Negotiable Requirements

  • No cats in the home
  • Homes with small children are not preferred
  • Dogs are acceptable
  • Legal basement suites will be considered
  • Must be able to provide a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting individuals with disabilities is considered an asset
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to support medical appointments and health-related needs
  • Comfortable working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary support team
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation are preferred
