Robotics Integration Engineer – Sensor Networks (human)

Riederich · On-site

About this role

Your Mission & Challenges

You will become part of our AI Data Operations team and own the integration layer that connects robots, sensors, and training pipelines inside our NeuraGym environment. You will be responsible for building the sensor network infrastructure, communication protocols, and data synchronization and fusion mechanisms that turn raw multi-modal robot data into reliable, training-ready streams for embodied AI.

  • Robot & Sensor Integration: End-to-end integration of humanoid and collaborative robots as well as a wide range of sensors into the Gym — from cabling and mounting concepts to driver-level bring-up, calibration, and runtime health monitoring.

  • Sensor Network Infrastructure: Design and operation of high-throughput sensor network topologies based on VLAN segmentation, QoS policies, and deterministic uplink behavior for time-critical robot data.

  • Data Synchronization & Time Alignment: Development of precise time synchronization (PTP/NTP, hardware trigger lines) and cross-modal alignment strategies to guarantee temporally consistent multi-sensor episodes suitable for model training and evaluation.

  • Sensor Fusion: Design and integration of sensor fusion components that combine visual, inertial, and proprioceptive streams into coherent scene and robot state representations — as a foundation for downstream perception, annotation, and policy learning.

  • Diagnostics & Observability: Development of diagnostic tools, dashboards, and health checks for sensor links, time sync quality, packet loss, and stream integrity — enabling fast triage during recording sessions and long-term reliability tracking.

  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with AI, perception, robotics, and IT infrastructure teams to define integration requirements, support QA and annotation workflows, contribute to documentation, and support CI/CD for infrastructure and sensor components.

What We Can Look Forward To

  • Excellent Master's, or PhD degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, or a related field

  • 4+ years of relevant experience in at least one of the core areas: robotics/sensor integration, real-time networking, distributed data acquisition systems, or sensor fusion

  • Strong programming skills in Python and modern C++

  • Hands-on experience with robotics middleware and streaming frameworks such as ROS 2, DDS or Zenoh

  • Solid background in network engineering

  • Practical experience with time synchronization (PTP/IEEE 1588, NTP, hardware triggering) and multi-sensor time alignment

  • Experience deploying software on robotics hardware and edge devices (e.g. NVIDIA Jetson) is a plus

  • Excellent problem-solving skills

  • Very good written and spoken English; German is a plus

Company at a glance

NEURA Robotics is a German high-tech company founded in 2019 in Metzingen near Stuttgart with the goal to revolutionize the world of robotics. Our mission is to expand the skill set of robots with cognitive capabilities so that they can work with humans in existing environments without having to invest in complex and costly safety systems. We aim to help make numerous fields of work more attractive, safer, and more social. Our guiding principle “we serve humanity” sums up this mission.

Today, more than 1500 team members from over 45 countries are working on advanced technology in the fields of environmental perception, drive and control technology, materials science, mechanical design, and AI.

By developing all key components such as AI, control software, sensor technology, and mechanical components in-house, the development team has made groundbreaking progress in a variety of areas.

With products such as MAiRA, the world’s first cognitive robot, or MiPA, a household and service robot, humanity awaits a new era of robotics. NEURA Robotics is currently working on launching 4NE1 (“For Anyone”), the first humanoid robot ready for series production.

With the Neuraverse, a comprehensive ecosystem for innovations in the field of cognitive robotics, NEURA Robotics is creating an important technical basis for automation solutions and enabling the networking of robots and partner companies on a global scale.
