Group Lead AI Engineering - NEURAGym (human)

Aachen · On-site

About this role

Your mission & challenges

  • Hire, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of Robotic Foundation Model Application Engineers

  • Act as technical lead and escalation point for NeuraGym users: scope feasibility, choose algorithms, plan data collection

  • Oversee onboarding of users to the full NeuraGym pipeline: teleoperation, annotation, training, simulation, deployment and validation

  • Collaborate closely with on-site Robotics Engineers during data capture and experiments to ensure desired behavior and safety standards are met

  • Step in hands-on when the team hits hard blockers: review training scripts, identify data issues, help reproduce model bugs

  • Serve as the interface to our Cloud and AI teams, facilitating cross-functional collaboration and alignment

  • Aggregate lessons learned across all engagements and feed them into both the NeuraGym product roadmap and the Neura core AI roadmap

  • Define and track team KPIs (skill success rate, time-to-validated-skill, data efficiency)

What we can look forward to

  • Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or related field

  • 5+ years hands-on machine learning experience in robotics — strong in at least two of: vision-based manipulation, reinforcement/imitation learning, or multimodal foundation models

  • 2+ years of people management or formal technical leadership (tech lead, staff engineer, or team lead with direct reports)

  • Solid Python skills (C++ a plus); practical experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow

  • Comfortable working directly with real robot hardware and associated middleware

  • Cloud experience (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and robotic simulation tools (IsaacSim, MuJoCo, etc.) a plus

  • Proven ability to deliver complex, multi-month robotics projects with measurable outcomes

  • Clear communicator who can translate between researchers, engineers, and end-users; good command of English and German (B2–C1)

Company at a glance

NEURA Robotics is a German high-tech company founded in 2019 in Metzingen near Stuttgart with the goal to revolutionize the world of robotics. Our mission is to expand the skill set of robots with cognitive capabilities so that they can work with humans in existing environments without having to invest in complex and costly safety systems. We aim to help make numerous fields of work more attractive, safer, and more social. Our guiding principle “we serve humanity” sums up this mission.

Today, more than 1500 team members from over 45 countries are working on advanced technology in the fields of environmental perception, drive and control technology, materials science, mechanical design, and AI.

By developing all key components such as AI, control software, sensor technology, and mechanical components in-house, the development team has made groundbreaking progress in a variety of areas.

With products such as MAiRA, the world’s first cognitive robot, or MiPA, a household and service robot, humanity awaits a new era of robotics. NEURA Robotics is currently working on launching 4NE1 (“For Anyone”), the first humanoid robot ready for series production.

With the Neuraverse, a comprehensive ecosystem for innovations in the field of cognitive robotics, NEURA Robotics is creating an important technical basis for automation solutions and enabling the networking of robots and partner companies on a global scale.
