As we continue to grow, we are looking for an Assistant Controller, to join our Quebec City team.
About the role
The Assistant Controller oversees the company’s accounting, financial, and payroll operations. This role prepares management analyses and reports, supervises billing and accounts receivable, participates in budgeting activities, and ensures the rigorous application of financial controls, compliance requirements, and processes.
- Location: 1035 Wilfrid-Pelletier Avenue, Québec, QC G1W 0C5
- Schedule: Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week
- Work Arrangement: Hybrid
What you will do
- Manage the full accounting cycle, including month-end journal entries;
- Assist with the preparation of monthly financial statements;
- Prepare and validate monthly reports for the Group;
- Prepare year-end documentation;
- Review and prepare tax returns;
- Manage intercompany transactions and journal entries;
- Oversee billing and accounts receivable;
- Review recurring billing (services, licences, contracts, etc.);
- Review and approve expenses, purchases, and payments;
- Analyze and monitor margin performance related to products and services;
- Process payroll and prepare annual payroll reports;
- Manage group insurance and RRSP files;
- Ensure compliance with government requirements and prepare required filings;
- Contribute to the preparation of the annual budget;
- Analyze and monitor grant and tax credit programs;
- Perform any other related duties;
- Support team versatility by providing occasional backup coverage as needed.
What We Are Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a similar role
- Experience in payroll processing and benefits administration
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
- Excellent knowledge of the Microsoft 365 environment and collaboration tools (Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, OneNote, and Loop)
- Strong understanding of financial principles and administrative controls
- Ability to manage multiple files, deadlines, and priorities simultaneously
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work accurately in a fast-paced environment
- Strong interest in technology and process optimization
- Experience with Desjardins payroll services (Employeur D)
- Experience with QuickBooks and Sage Intacct
- Experience working in a growing SME or in the IT sector
- Experience in data analysis and the development of dashboards or KPIs
- Excellent proficiency in both French and English, written and spoken
Frequent communication with clients and vendors outside the province is required; therefore, a strong command of both written and spoken English is necessary
