Your Purpose

We are pleased to be hiring for an Energy Efficiency Engineer to join our growing Energy Efficiency department. The Energy Efficiency Engineer is tasked with quantifying the technical performance of the fleet, focusing on hotel and service consumers, and for delivering technical analysis and advice to support improvement in energy efficiency. In this role, you will be responsible for assessing technological solutions, analysing high-frequency operational data, and managing energy efficiency related projects. You will also advise on required changes to the operation of our ships to foster energy efficiency and fuel consumption reduction, working closely with shore-based stakeholders and ship staff. This role requires frequent travel to vessels across the fleet for audits, technical inspections, training and onboard project implementation.

Your Impact

  • Manages projects related to energy efficiency and emission reduction on board the fleet, with a particular focus on the hotel and service functions (e.g. power generation efficiency, electrical and thermal load management).
  • Supports the company in choosing the best technological solutions related to energy efficiency and decarbonisation to be adopted on new ships, retrofitted on the fleet in service, or installed in the terminals.
  • Maintains and further develop the company’s decision support systems and performance monitoring tools, provide input for the development and maintenance of the fleet’s energy baselines/digital twins.
  • Analyses high‑frequency operational data and develops dashboards using tools such as Power BI, or similar analytics platforms, to provide insights on the fleet’s hotel and auxiliary load performance.
  • Advises on necessary improvements in the operation of ships to enhance energy efficiency, reduce fuel consumption and associated emissions, based on insight obtained from analytical tools and/or onboard audits.
  • Participates in R&D projects on energy efficiency and decarbonisation. Manage several projects simultaneously by prioritising effectively and completing tasks within required timeframes.
  • Undertakes frequent travel on board vessels and to shipyards, and other shore-based locations to conduct audits, inspections, training activities and technical project work.

Your Journey so far

  • At least 3 years of relevant work experience in the cruise sector, with a sailing experience on cruise ships at least up to the rank of 2nd engineer is desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of cruise ship systems such as electric power generation and hotel/service loads.
  • Proficient in automation principles and control philosophies of various auxiliary equipment, i.e., ventilation systems, machinery space pumps & fans, thermal load management etc.
  • Strong ability to work in a team environment.
  • High attention to detail across both qualitive and quantitative research and analysis.
  • Self-starter and autonomous in operational decision making according to Company guidelines and procedures.
  • Proficient in documentation and technical manual preparation.

Your Essentials

  • Existing right to live and work in the Italy
  • Flexibility to undertake frequent international travel, with approximately 50% of the role requiring travel.
  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in engineering (Marine, Mechanical, Electrical, Energy Engineering or a related discipline) or a valid Operational Level (OICEW) Certificate of Competency, conforming to STCW A-III/1.
  • Competency in cruise ship systems design, ship operations, HVAC & heat recovery systems is essential.
  • Experience in budget management and Project Management for technical project delivery.
  • Excellent English and communication skills combined with the ability to build a case and present data effectively.

This opportunity offers a gross annual salary range of €55,000 to €60,000, depending on experience and relevant expertise, alongside a competitive package of additional benefits.
