Ski Patrol Candidate

General Purpose

The Ski Patrol Candidate will provide and promote a safe environment for Purgatory guests and employees,
educate skiers/snowboarders about the Skiers’ Responsibility Code, and monitor guests to ensure general
mountain safety. Ski Patrol is a highly visible role at Purgatory Resort and requires a great deal of guest
Interaction.

This is a seasonal position from November 2026-April 2027. Dates are subject to change based on the
availability of the applicant and needs of the business. This role comes with a free season pass for you and your

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

● Provide professional, friendly and courteous service to guests and employees. Duties include responding to
medical emergencies on the mountain, transporting injured guests off the mountain, and ensuring general
mountain safety.
● Develop and maintain working knowledge of Patrol procedures.
● Know, understand, and adhere to the 1979 Colorado Skier Safety Act, Senate Bill 80 and Purgatory Resort
mountain rules and regulations, including the Skiers and Riders Responsibility Code.
● Maintain trail safety marking, pads and hazards in accordance with the Colorado Skier Safety Act.
● Complete all required documentation in a timely and professional manner including logs, accident reports and
checklists.
● Check safety equipment daily for proper function.
● Perform sweeps at the end of the day to ensure that all guests and employees are safely off the mountain.
● Completing all duties and tasks with the utmost regard for personal and guest safety.
● Continuing education and on-the-job training provided and expected.
● Special duties may include chairlift evacuation, out-of-boundary and/or night search and rescue activities,
avalanche control and implementing snow safety protocols.
● Other duties as assigned.

QualificationsKnowledge, Skills & Abilities

● Expert skiing/snowboarding ability, and ability to ski/snowboarding all terrain in all conditions.
● Excellent interpersonal skills.
● Must be able to work outside for extended periods of time in variable winter conditions and at high altitude.

Education and Experience

● Current BLS Healthcare Provider CPR
● Current Medical Certification (need one of these)
○ Colorado Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B) certification

○ National Ski Patrol Outdoor Emergency Care certification
● National Registry EMT certification preferred.
● Additional Medical Certification accepted
○ Current Colorado Paramedic certification
○ Registered Nurse (RN)

Prior experience in an EMT position is preferred, especially in an outdoor environment.

Working Environment/Physical Activities

65% of the work day is spent outdoors in constantly changing weather conditions, including but not limited to
extreme cold, wet, snow and wind. 35% of the workday is spent indoors. 40% of the work day is spent
skiing/snowboarding, 15% is spent walking, 15% is spent standing and 30% is spent sitting. Majority of
walking and standing is done while wearing ski or snowboard boots. Majority of sitting is on exposed chair lifts
in winter alpine environment.
Occasionally lifting and carrying people and objects weighing up to 150 pounds, and occasionally pushing or
pulling toboggans with injured skiers/snowboarders weighing up to 300 pounds. Frequent use of
skis/snowboard, poles, toboggans, and controls. Constant use of near and far acuity and depth perception.
Frequently climbing, balancing, reaching, handling, engaging in normal conversation, and use of color and field
of vision. Occasionally stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling and feeling. Frequent exposure to radiant
energy. Occasional exposure to mechanical hazards, high exposed worksite, burns, explosives, toxic and caustic
chemicals, fumes, odors, mists, gasses and poor ventilation.
