We are hiring a Senior E-CAD Specialist to support the design and development of ruggedized electronics and Printed Wiring Boards (PWBs/PCBs) for U.S. Navy undersea systems. This role requires advanced experience with Cadence Capture CIS, Cadence Allegro, PCB/PWB layout, schematic capture, legacy design conversion, component libraries, IPC/J-STD/Mil-Spec standards, and circuit card assembly (CCA) design.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and complete printed wiring board (PWB/PCB) designs in collaboration with Program Management, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Component Engineering.
  • Perform schematic capture and PCB layout using Cadence Capture CIS and Allegro, including constraints management, netlisting, debugging, annotation, and layout post-processing.
  • Convert legacy schematic data from PDFs into Capture CIS native design files and legacy layout data from Gerber or PDF formats into Allegro native design files.
  • Create and verify schematic symbols, PCB footprints, custom padstacks, board stack-ups, and related component library data.
  • Netlist new schematics into new PCB layouts and verify accuracy against legacy design data.
  • Design complex circuit card layouts incorporating mixed-signal, analog, digital, high-speed, RF, linear and switching power supplies, high-voltage, and high-current circuitry.
  • Support communications interfaces and buses including Ethernet, PCI, VPX, DDR, RS-485, SATA, USB, and I2C.
  • Apply industry and defense electronics standards, including IPC, J-STD, Mil-Spec, ASME, ESD, UL, and RoHS, throughout PCB/PWB design activities.
  • Incorporate knowledge of bare-board fabrication, circuit card assembly processes, materials, manufacturing tolerances, and electronic component physical and electrical characteristics.
  • Develop PCB stack-ups and perform impedance and transmission-line modeling using applicable design and analysis tools.
  • Execute design rule checks, identify and resolve design errors and conflicts, and generate detailed design reports.
  • Import, export, and maintain circuit card assembly documentation and design data using formats and tools including Gerber, ODB++, CAM350, Valor, Polar Si9000, and Zplanner.
  • Support engineering workflows utilizing Altium, Xpedition, AutoCAD, eDrawings, SolidWorks, Windchill, Microsoft Office, Adobe, and MS Teams, as applicable.
  • Conduct and host screen-share design reviews, participate in formal PCB layout reviews, complete design checklists, and implement technical direction from layout leads.
  • Manage multiple concurrent and expedited design requests while providing schedule inputs, status reporting, and required design releases.
  • Post design files to designated repositories and provide design data and release packages needed to support program schedules.
  • Develop technical solutions within cost, schedule, and technology constraints and identify opportunities for process optimization, continuous improvement, and appropriate application of AI-enabled capabilities.

Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizenship is required by Federal Law
  • Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in a related specialized field plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree plus a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience. An equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience may be considered.
  • Advanced knowledge and hands-on experience with Cadence Capture CIS and Cadence Allegro for electronic design automation (E-CAD), schematic capture, and printed wiring board design.
  • Advanced understanding of printed wiring board and circuit card assembly standards, including IPC, J-STD, Mil-Spec, ASME, ESD, UL, and RoHS.
  • Knowledge of bare-board fabrication and circuit card assembly manufacturing processes, materials, and tolerances.
  • Strong understanding of electronic component physical and electrical characteristics.
  • Experience designing PCB/PWB layouts involving mixed-signal, analog, digital, high-speed, RF, power supply, high-voltage, and high-current circuits.
  • Knowledge of communications interfaces and buses such as Ethernet, PCI, VPX, DDR, RS-485, SATA, USB, and I2C.
  • Experience with schematic capture, PCB layout, constraints management, netlisting/debugging, annotation, post-processing, component library development, footprint and padstack design, stack-up design, design rule checking, and technical design reporting.
  • Experience with impedance and transmission-line modeling.
  • Experience converting legacy schematic and PCB layout data from PDF and Gerber formats into native Cadence Capture CIS and Allegro designs.
  • Proficiency with applicable E-CAD and engineering tools, including Altium, Xpedition, Gerber, ODB++, CAM350, Valor, Polar Si9000, Zplanner, AutoCAD, eDrawings, SolidWorks, and Windchill.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Access, and Teams, and experience with Adobe tools.
  • Ability to independently troubleshoot PCB design conflicts, develop technical solutions, manage concurrent design assignments, and provide schedule inputs.
  • Ability to work within defined cost, schedule, and technology trade spaces and support formal technical and layout design reviews.
