We are seeking a Materials & Processes Engineer – Metallurgy / Aerospace Manufacturing to support the development, qualification, and implementation of aerospace materials, manufacturing processes, and metallurgical technologies. This role focuses on materials engineering, metallurgy, failure analysis, supplier qualification, laboratory testing, process control, and manufacturing support while ensuring compliance with aerospace quality, environmental, and engineering standards.


 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain, and revise material specifications, process controls, and acceptance criteria for metals, metal alloys, coatings, heat treatments, and joining processes.
  • Support the definition, qualification, and deployment of materials, manufacturing processes, tooling, equipment, and components used in aerospace product development and production.
  • Plan, coordinate, and perform metallurgical testing and materials characterization, including:
    • Microstructure analysis
    • Hardness testing
    • Tensile testing
    • Fracture toughness evaluation
    • Corrosion testing
    • Non-Destructive Inspection (NDI) techniques
  • Investigate manufacturing and production failures by conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Qualify new materials, manufacturing processes, tooling, and equipment to meet engineering, quality, and regulatory requirements.
  • Review supplier material certifications, laboratory reports, and technical documentation to verify compliance with engineering specifications.
  • Assist in supplier qualification activities and evaluate material and process performance.
  • Maintain materials and process databases, engineering documentation, specifications, and technical reports.
  • Utilize project management tools to support cost, schedule, and technical objectives.
  • Incorporate Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), LEAN manufacturing, and Quality principles into laboratory operations, engineering processes, research activities, and manufacturing support.
  • Present technical findings and engineering recommendations to cross-functional teams and program stakeholders.

 

Qualifications:

  • US Citizenship Required
  • Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate degree in Materials Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering, or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution. ABET accreditation preferred but not required.
  • Minimum 2+ years of professional engineering experience with a Bachelor's degree, or applicable engineering experience with a Master's degree.
  • Minimum 2+ years of aerospace engineering experience.
  • Experience supporting materials engineering, metallurgy, manufacturing processes, or materials qualification activities.
  • Knowledge of metals, metal alloys, coatings, heat treatment processes, welding, brazing, adhesive bonding, and mechanical joining techniques.
  • Experience supporting laboratory testing, engineering investigations, or production support activities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to conduct engineering evaluations and failure investigations.
  • Commitment to environmental, health, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3–10 years of Materials & Processes engineering experience within the aerospace industry.
  • 3+ years of experience working in a metallurgical laboratory environment.
  • Experience performing metallurgical characterization, materials testing, and failure analysis.
  • Experience supporting aircraft development or aerospace production programs.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience leading projects or coordinating cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Bachelor's degree with typically 5+ years of engineering experience, Master's degree with typically 3+ years of engineering experience, or PhD with engineering experience.
