Embedded Systems Project Engineer

Onsite in Auburn, Alabama | Full-Time with Benefits

Estimated salary range: $100,000 - $140,000

 


Project Engineer – Embedded Systems to lead the development and launch of PCB based embedded electronic products. This senior-level individual contributor will combine technical leadership with direct engineering involvement across hardware, firmware, product integration, testing, manufacturing readiness, and regulatory compliance.

 

The ideal candidate has a strong embedded electronics background and is comfortable working across electrical hardware, firmware, and limited mechanical integration. This person should be able to evaluate schematics and component datasheets, troubleshoot hardware and firmware interfaces, write embedded C/C++ code when needed, coordinate vendors and cross-functional teams, and keep multiple product-development efforts moving forward.


 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the electrical design and development of PCB-based embedded electronic products from concept through production
  • Serve as the technical lead for assigned projects, coordinating engineering activities and collaborating with cross-functional teams throughout the product development lifecycle
  • Define project requirements, develop schedules, and oversee project execution to ensure quality, cost, and delivery objectives are achieved
  • Design, develop, integrate, test, and validate embedded electronic hardware and supporting systems
  • Analyze technical challenges, troubleshoot complex system issues, and implement effective engineering solutions
  • Collaborate with hardware, software, mechanical, manufacturing, and product management teams to ensure seamless product integration
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret technical data from engineering teams, suppliers, product documentation, laboratory testing, and experimental evaluations
  • Develop and execute product verification and validation activities to ensure compliance with customer requirements and applicable industry standards
  • Prepare engineering documentation, design records, test reports, manufacturing documentation, and production release packages
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by enhancing engineering processes, development methodologies, and product design practices
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers, designers, and technicians as project needs require

 

Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizenship is required by Federal Law
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience designing and developing electronic assemblies or equivalent demonstrated engineering experience
  • Experience designing PCB-based embedded electronic systems
  • Strong understanding of electronic hardware design, product development, system integration, testing, and validation
  • Experience leading engineering projects through the complete product development lifecycle
  • Knowledge of electronic system troubleshooting, verification, and production readiness activities
  • Experience preparing engineering documentation and manufacturing support documentation
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve complex technical issues
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects and coordinate cross-functional engineering efforts

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience developing embedded electronic systems utilizing: Microprocessors, FPGAs, Analog circuits, Wireless RF technologies, Li-Ion battery systems, Sensors
  • Experience with new product development and new product introduction (NPI)
  • Experience with Stage-Gate product development methodologies
  • Experience supporting domestic and international product compliance and regulatory certification
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering teams supporting hardware and embedded product development
