We are seeking a CNC Gear Grinding Operator to support precision gear manufacturing by operating CNC gear grinding equipment to produce high-precision gears that meet engineering and quality specifications. This role is responsible for machine setup, blueprint interpretation, precision measurement, gear grinding, machine adjustments, and quality inspection while maintaining compliance with AS9100, ISO 14001, and company safety standards.


Responsibilities:

  • Operate CNC gear grinding machines with specialized indexing equipment to manufacture precision gears and master gears.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, planning sheets, sketches, job orders, and technical documentation to determine machining requirements.
  • Determine machine setup procedures, control settings, tooling requirements, machining methods, and operation sequences.
  • Calculate machine indexing ratios, cam dimensions, and gear spacing requirements for precision grinding operations.
  • Select and install index plates, cams, grinding wheels, fixtures, and tooling based on product specifications.
  • Set up and adjust automatic wheel dressing equipment to maintain required grinding wheel profiles.
  • Configure synchronized machine speeds, feed rates, and depth-of-cut settings for optimal machining performance.
  • Mount and secure workpieces using mandrels, centers, or chucks, verifying setup accuracy with thickness gauges, dial indicators, micrometers, and other precision measuring instruments.
  • Monitor grinding operations, adjust machine settings as needed, and maintain proper coolant flow throughout machining processes.
  • Inspect finished gears to verify dimensional accuracy and conformance to engineering drawings, tolerances, and quality standards.
  • Complete production documentation and maintain accurate quality records.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

 

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • One to four years of CNC gear grinding, precision machining, or related manufacturing experience; equivalent education and experience considered.
  • Experience operating CNC gear grinding machines or similar precision grinding equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, machining specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Experience performing machine setup, tooling changes, and precision adjustments.
  • Proficiency using precision measuring instruments, including micrometers, dial indicators, thickness gauges, and other inspection equipment.
  • Knowledge of gear grinding processes, machining techniques, tooling, feeds, speeds, and machine indexing principles.
  • Ability to calculate machining dimensions, indexing ratios, and setup requirements.
  • Knowledge of AS9100 quality management standards and ISO 14001 environmental management systems.
  • Ability to follow quality procedures, safety regulations, and required PPE guidelines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience manufacturing aerospace, defense, automotive, or industrial power transmission components.
  • Experience with precision gear inspection and quality control processes.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Preventive maintenance experience on CNC grinding equipment.
