We are seeking an Automation Controls Engineer to support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of automated manufacturing equipment and industrial control systems. This role focuses on PLC programming, industrial networking, equipment modernization, cybersecurity, data collection, electrical systems, and production automation while collaborating with cross-functional engineering and manufacturing teams to improve equipment reliability, safety, and operational efficiency.


 

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate, select, implement, and validate hardware and software solutions for automated manufacturing equipment and control systems.
  • Design, develop, test, and deploy enhancements to automation hardware, software, and production equipment.
  • Implement machine safety improvements and ensure compliance with applicable electrical and safety standards.
  • Analyze equipment performance data to perform root cause analysis and resolve recurring production issues.
  • Troubleshoot production equipment related to quality, reliability, repeatability, and system performance.
  • Design, develop, and maintain industrial networking infrastructure, equipment connectivity, and cybersecurity solutions.
  • Develop and maintain automated data collection systems supporting equipment performance metrics, including OEE, MTBF, MTTR, and machine uptime.
  • Collaborate with Operations to develop data acquisition strategies and improve manufacturing visibility.
  • Develop engineering solutions to address equipment obsolescence, reliability, and long-term maintainability.
  • Verify equipment, software, and material specifications meet design and operational requirements.
  • Generate system specifications from production requirements and develop bid packages and purchase specifications for equipment suppliers.
  • Lead or support projects involving the acquisition, installation, modification, and commissioning of manufacturing equipment.
  • Maintain hardware, software, system configurations, and engineering documentation.
  • Evaluate design concepts and manufacturing solutions to improve producibility and overall system performance.
  • Partner with manufacturing, quality, safety, purchasing, finance, research and technology, suppliers, and operations to implement engineering solutions.

 

Qualifications:

  • US Citizenship Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution (ABET accreditation preferred but not required).
  • Minimum 3 years of engineering experience supporting automation, manufacturing systems, industrial equipment, or related engineering environments.
  • Experience evaluating, implementing, and troubleshooting automated equipment and control systems.
  • Knowledge of industrial automation, equipment integration, and production support.
  • Experience developing engineering documentation, system specifications, and equipment requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience supporting manufacturing or production environments.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with electrical and electronic control systems.
  • PLC programming experience using Siemens, Rockwell, Fanuc, or similar platforms.
  • Programming experience using C#, Java, Visual Basic, or similar languages.
  • Experience with industrial networking, servers, databases, and manufacturing system connectivity.
  • Experience troubleshooting automated systems and production equipment.
  • Experience with Automated Test Equipment (ATE), including PXI, PCI, VXI, IEEE-488, RS-485, and CAN Bus.
  • Experience using AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, CATIA, or similar CAD software.
  • Experience administering Microsoft Windows operating systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, and Visual Studio.
  • Project management experience supporting capital equipment or manufacturing improvement initiatives.
