Position Summary:
The incumbent in this highly visible role serves as part of MBA’s CREF division senior management team and as the lead staff representative for commercial and multifamily policy activities. This includes interaction with members, policy and advocacy formulation and strategy, representation before federal housing and financial regulators (HUD, FHFA, Treasury, FDIC, OCC, Federal Reserve, CFPB), and partnering with fellow trade associations and other groups affecting the commercial real estate finance industry. Serves as lead staff representative to selected commercial and multifamily-related member committees and is responsible for contributing to the content of tracks at MBA conferences and educational programs.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serve as part of the senior leadership team for the CREF division and work collaboratively with the SVP and VP, Member Engagement to promote, grow and continuously improve our value to the members, including membership retainment and growth, conferences, education, and advocacy.
- Lead, set the strategic direction for, and manage the CREF policy team, including work prioritization, individual and team development and growth, and reinforcing a positive work environment.
- Serve as the staff technical expert on multifamily and healthcare issues for FHA and GSE and selected other sector commercial real estate and multifamily lending.
- Direct the management, development, and execution of commercial and multifamily public policy positions and strategy with MBA members and staff to promote favorable results and outcomes for commercial/multifamily lending and investment.
- Represent MBA positions before policymakers, regulators, the industry, the GSEs, the press, and members.
- Collaborate with the State and Local Advocacy team to promote policies favorable to the CRE finance industry in accordance with MBA’s state and local chapters.
- Collaborate with the Legislative/Political Advocacy team to promote CREF policies to Congress.
- Manage and serve as a staff representative and manager of selected MBA’s commercial and multifamily committees, task forces, and working groups, coordinating meetings, agendas, and background material.
- Provide staff oversight of the Fannie Mae DUS Lenders Peer Group, assuring its effective operation within MBA guidelines and overseeing a consultant who provides day-to-day support for the group.
- Support the CREF division’s conferences, including panel and content development.
- Work with Education staff on training and education programs for commercial and multifamily members, generally providing technical expertise and suggesting programs to meet member needs.
- Prepare and monitor the budget for selected multifamily events and activities.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in public policy, business, economics, political science, or a related field. A minimum of fifteen (15) years of experience in a business, legal, industry and/or policy function of considerable responsibility requiring the exercise of independent judgment. Association experience preferred. Strong knowledge of commercial, multifamily rental housing and/or real estate finance required. Excellent analytical, interpersonal, writing, and verbal skills are critical. Experience with regulatory and public policy matters preferred.
The current recruitment range for this role is $231,000 - $245,000
