Software Engineer II (Front-End - Next.js)

London · Hybrid

About this role

MOO brings brands to life in a sustainable way, with a range of remarkable print and merchandise products. We combine design, technology, manufacturing and service, so that people can connect in memorable ways. Not online but out there, in real life.

We started in 2004. Since then we’ve built an award-winning and much-loved brand, with customer satisfaction and Trustpilot ratings that make most businesses want to give up and hire an army of review bots. We’ve got half a million customers, mostly small and medium businesses in North America, the UK, and Europe – businesses that, like us, get all excited about putting something real and beautiful into people’s hands. Does that make us nerds? Probably, and we’re ok with that.

We’ve been given the highest business award in Britain, ‘The Queen’s Award for Enterprise’. Backed by venture capital, we’re part of Tech Nation’s ‘Future Fifty’, recently passing $1bn in lifetime revenue, and featuring in the Guardian’s top 10 UK start-ups list. Ok, we’ll stop bragging now.

Today, we’re more than 400 people with our global HQ in London, UK, while we also have premises in Dagenham. In the US, you’ll find us in Boston, MA, as well as East Providence, RI and Denver, CO and with our most recent office expansion in Cape Town South Africa.

The Browse team focuses on our e-commerce storefront upper-funnel. We're dedicated to our customers' browsing experience and the product data that drives our catalog. Our place in the journey means we typically deal with the highest traffic volumes and continue to drive growth through experimentation and innovation.

We are looking for a Middleweight Software Engineer to join the Browse team. We're a front-end focused team but also manage apects of product data and integrations to other parts of the e-commerce and fulfilment journeys. The successful candidate will have solid React skills and ideally some experience with Next.js, or a similar React-based framework, using Typescript. If you've worked with, or had exposure to,  React Testing Library and Storybook as part of a Design System, that would be a bonus!

\nAbout You
  • You have experience in supporting the development of content driven pages primarily using Next.js or similar
  • You have a basic understanding of AWS and/or Vercel and navigating their ecosystems
  • You're curious about AI, and may be proficient with it, while retaining your basic craftmanship
  • You're happy to pitch in with documentation when it's needed and have good communication skills
  • You are self-motivated and a team player
  • Willing to learn and evolve your skills
The Person We Want
  • Comfortable with React, and ideally Next.js, authored in Typescript
  • Can demonstrate some understanding of buliding with CMS systems using an API-first approach via a BFF
  • Can show the importance of code quality, performance and testing
  • Has a good grasp of Accessibility concerns
  • Is able to take Figma, or other high fidelity designs and turn these into working components
Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the team through understanding and refining system requirements and translating these into high quality working software
  • Participate in Agile team ceremonies and be able to suggest improvements to our ways of working
  • Be comfortable with knowledge sharing, pair-programming and spending a proportion of your time on PRs
  • Demonstrate a passion for testing and correctness through high levels of test automation using a range of tools
  • Show a sense of ownership over your work and be proactive about tackling any impediments to delivery
  • Balance your time between technical discovery, new feature delivery and maintaining the existing codebase
