Staff Software Engineer, Frontend Platform
About this role
We're looking for a Staff Frontend Platform Engineer with 8+ years of experience to join Modern Health's Frontend Platform team. This is a high-leverage IC leadership role for someone who has built and scaled design systems or shared component libraries across multiple product teams. You'll own the design system, shared component libraries, and frontend tooling that every product engineer at the company builds on top of — making architectural decisions, establishing engineering standards, and coaching senior engineers.
Responsibilities
Own and evolve Vita, Modern Health's cross-platform design system across web (React) and mobile (React Native) — tokens, theming, accessibility (WCAG 2.1 AA), and RTL/internationalization
Drive delivery of the mobile design system — a greenfield initiative building out components, migrating existing patterns, and establishing the React Native foundation
Establish and enforce frontend engineering standards across the org through RFCs, working groups, and architectural decisions
Integrate AI tooling into frontend workflows — connecting agentic coding tools and LLM-powered DX to the component library via MCP wiring
Lead modernization efforts including React upgrades (16→19), TypeScript standardization, and build tooling migrations (Vite)
Improve developer experience across CI/CD pipelines, linting, type safety, code generation, and platform health metrics
Coach and mentor senior engineers on the platform team; partner closely with design, product, and engineering stakeholders
Partner with backend engineers on GraphQL APIs; make targeted changes in Python services when needed to unblock platform work
SALARY BANDS HAVE GEO TIERS:
Comp: $136K–$217K base (for Tier 1) + equity. Remote work eligible within the US, excluding Hawaii.
Zone 1: $160k-$217k Max
Zone 2: $160k-$217k Max
Zone 3: $144k-$195k Max
Zone 4: $136k-$184k Max
Salary ranges vary by GEOGRAPHIC AREA/TIERS.
