About this role

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Emergency Department Financial Counselor to assist patients with insurance verification, financial screening, payment arrangements, and financial assistance programs.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct patient financial screenings and interviews.
  • Verify insurance eligibility, benefits, copays, deductibles, and patient responsibility.
  • Obtain insurance authorizations for ED admissions, Inpatient, and BHU.
  • Assist with Medi-Cal, Charity Care, and financial assistance applications.
  • Establish payment plans and cash-rate arrangements.
  • Maintain accurate registration and financial records.
  • Perform daily audits of ED accounts.
  • Explain hospital, state, and federal financial policies to patients and families.
  • Support and train Registration staff as needed.
  • Provide excellent customer service to patients, families, physicians, and staff.

Qualifications

  • 2–3 years of hospital financial counseling experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of Medicare, Medi-Cal, HMO, PPO, EPO, Managed Care, and commercial insurance.
  • Hospital patient registration experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred, but not required.
  • Must complete required AVIP/Fire Card and AIDET training.

Schedule: Must be flexible to work varying shifts and overtime as needed.
