POSITION OVERVIEW

The Assistant Category Manager supports the Category Manager in driving the performance of assigned duties related to various categories. This role is focused on hands-on involvement in merchandising projects, promotion building, vendor relations and marketing program design. The Assistant Category Manager will work closely with the Category Manager and develop foundational skills within category management, across all categories. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Merchandising Support: Assist the Category Manager in executing planogram resets, shelf sets, and product placement strategies across all categories. Support the maintenance of accurate and up-to-date planograms using category management tools. Help coordinate new item introductions and product discontinuations at store level.
  1. Promotion Building: Assist in the development and execution of promotional programs, including displays, TPRs, and loyalty driven promotions. Help track promotional performance and compile data for post-promotion analysis.
  1. Administrative & Analytical Support: Assist with data entry, reporting, and analysis to support category reviews and business decisions. Help maintain item files, vendor information, and category documentation. Participate in vendor meetings and category reviews as a supporting team member.
  1. Career Development: Actively develop knowledge of category management principles, retail merchandising, and consumer behavior. Work toward the goal of independently managing assigned categories as skills and experience grow. Seek feedback and mentorship from the Category Manager to build competency across all category functions.

QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION

Education: Bachelor’s degree in business, Marketing, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.
Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in category management, merchandising, or product management, preferably in retail or convenience store environments.
Skills: Excellent communication and negotiation skills. Proven ability to collaborate across teams and manage relationships. Comfortable assessing data and then recommending action.
Technical Proficiency: Proficient in category management software, retail analytics tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Creativity, Curiosity and Innovation: Must have excellent business intelligence skills, insatiable curiosity and the ability to work independently in a fast-moving environment. Motivation to develop and implement successful category strategies that drive sales and enhance customer experience.
Customer Focus: Strong understanding of customer needs and preferences in center store categories, with a commitment to delivering exceptional shopping experience.
