SUMMARY:
MCAD is seeking a Career Development Advisor. This position is responsible for ensuring maximum career development advising and programming for MCAD students, graduates, and alumni through strategy, leadership, and implementation.
DETAILS: This is a full time, non-exempt position expected to work 35 hours a week. This position reports to the Director of Career Development and is paid $25-$27 per hour.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Advise students one-on-one regarding all aspects of career development.
- Seek out, identify, and share potential job/internship leads suitable for student and alumni advisees.
- Conduct in-class or virtual presentations on a variety of career subjects.
- Serve as the advisor and main point of contact for internship-related questions and issues.
- Grade all internships as faculty of record, provide Program Chairs with copies of final evaluations.
- Liaise with Records regarding all internship credit issues/questions.
- Manage submission and approval process for internships.
- Oversee departmental involvement and logistics for institutional events.
- Represent MCAD at internal and external stakeholder meetings and events.
- Develop and edit departmental resources and materials.
- Approve and post relevant job and internship opportunities to Handshake.
- Seek out, identify, and individually contact potential employers directly about opportunities found on other job boards, urging them to post on MCAD’s job board.
- Perform general administrative duties.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Represent MCAD’s vision, mission, and values.

Requirements
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree or above in education, art, design, business or the equivalent of a minimum of one year experience in either Career Services or Career Development Department, preferably in a college/University setting, required.
- One (1) year of career development experience, required.
- An in-depth understanding of all aspects of job search strategies and career planning including self assessment, resume writing, interviewing, negotiating research, and networking, strongly preferred.
- Ability to utilize this knowledge to train, motivate, and develop students/alumni via one on one individually or in group sessions via classroom visits and Internship Seminars, strongly preferred.
- Persuasive sales techniques both in person and by phone with strong effective communication skills, preferred.
- Experience with a Higher Education environment, preferred.

BACKGROUND: Founded in 1886, Minneapolis College of Art and Design is located in the rich creative community of the Twin Cities. Recognized nationally and internationally for its innovative approaches to art and design education, MCAD is home to approximately 800 students from 45 states and 15 countries. The college offers bachelor’s degrees in fourteen disciplines including arts entrepreneurship, design, fine arts, and media arts; one MFA; three online master’s degrees; and continuing education classes for all ages. Through the core curriculum, students focus on their careers and craft by learning technical and professional skills while developing their creative leadership capabilities.
