POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Vocation and Calling Student Assistant supports the Office of Vocation and Calling in its career development, leadership development, and broader student development initiatives. This position provides logistical and administrative support through event preparation, Handshake and job-posting maintenance, office organization, errands, and other duties that help the office serve students effectively.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

● Maintain and organize the Career Closet, including clothing, supplies, and related resources. 

● Communicate professionally and respectfully with students, staff, employers, and campus partners. 

● Assist with the planning, preparation, setup, execution, and cleanup of Office of Vocation and Calling events. 

● Complete errands and provide general organizational and administrative support for the office. 

● Assist with creating promotional content, handouts, and other materials for office programs and events. 

● Assist with organizing and updating student, employer, event, and job-posting information in Handshake under the direction of office staff. 

● Help create and update career development resources under the guidance of Office of Vocation and Calling staff. 

● Work collaboratively with the Office of Vocation and Calling staff on special projects, programs, and events. 

● Maintain confidentiality when working with student information, office records, and other sensitive materials. 

● Perform other duties as assigned that support the mission and work of the Office of Vocation and Calling. 

● Assist the Division of Student Affairs with events, projects, and other operational needs during peak times, as directed.

● Demonstrates strong problem-solving skills and initiative. 

● Maintains a high level of confidentiality and professionalism. 

● Possesses strong technology skills and the ability to learn new platforms and systems. 

● Demonstrates the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities with guidance while meeting established deadlines. 

● Possesses strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. 

● Is dependable, organized, detail-oriented, and able to work both independently and collaboratively. 

● Demonstrates a willingness to complete a variety of administrative, logistical, and creative tasks. 

● Must possess a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation available for occasional office-related errands and local travel.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: 

● Must be a currently enrolled student at Mid-America Christian University. 

● Must be eligible for the Federal Work-Study Program.

COMPUTER SKILLS: 

● Proficiency with Google Workspace, including Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive, Gmail, and Calendar. 

● Ability to use or learn Handshake, Canva, Microsoft Office, and other office-related technology. 

● Ability to organize and accurately enter data into spreadsheets, databases, and online platforms. 

● Ability to create professional digital documents, promotional materials, and communications.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

Ability to sit for extended periods, move throughout the office and campus, assist with event setup and cleanup, and occasionally lift or move items weighing up to 40 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

Work is primarily performed in a professional office environment, with occasional work at campus events and other locations across campus. The position involves regular interaction with students, staff, employers, and campus partners.
