Job Summary
The Engineering Technician II (Prototypes) is a mid-level position within Mesa’s engineering department, distinguished from the entry-level role by demonstrated experience and technical contributions to projects. This position is responsible for performing advanced technical tasks related to prototype development, ensuring compliance with company and industry standards. Engineering Technicians II play a critical role in evaluating prototypes throughout the development process.
Essential Duties
Reads & understands GD&T.
Participate in design reviews.
Assess designs for predictability, maintainability, safety and reliability.
Welds prototype designs for generator and distribution containments.
Assembles power generation equipment.
Identify and resolve issues that arise during prototype and testing phases.
Operates Load banks for power generation equipment testing.
Maintains shop equipment.
Maintains a safe, clean and effective working environment.
Maintains parts inventory stock levels as well as coordinating delivery and receiving of project components.
Communicates with internal personnel on project status, recommendations, and completion dates.
Communicate with engineers on design, assembly or process issues.
Performs quality checks on manufactured parts.
Understanding of Mesa internal processes and procedures.
Acting as liaison between development and other departments during events.
Troubleshooting complex issues at the systems level.
Supporting continuing efforts to improve quality, safety and productivity.
Mentoring Engineering Technicians I technically.
Aiding in managing project timelines and ensuring efficiency of development.
Adherence and enforcement of all Mesa safety requirements.
All other duties assigned.
Qualifications
Education
Required
2 Year / Associate Degree in Engineering Technology, Electrical Technology, Mechanical Technology, Industrial Technology, OR related technical discipline, schooling or trades program and/or equivalent combination of training, technical education, and relevant work experience.
Experience
Required
2 years of experience supporting engineering, prototype development, fabrication, power generation equipment, industrial equipment, or manufacturing environments.
Any experience with generator systems, internal combustion engines, or industrial equipment.
Preferred
4 years of experience supporting engineering, prototype development, fabrication, power generation equipment, industrial equipment, or manufacturing environments.
2 years of experience working with low-voltage electrical systems and mechanical assemblies.
Honorably discharged service veterans are preferred.
Certifications, Licenses & Registrations

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Solid understanding of GD&T principles for interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
Knowledge of engineering design principles related to safety, reliability, maintainability, and predictability.
Understanding of welding techniques and standards, specifically for prototypes and containment structures.
Knowledge of power generation equipment and electrical distribution systems, including load bank testing procedures.
Familiarity with inspection techniques, quality standards, and part verification processes.
Working knowledge of internal Mesa procedures, workflows, and safety standards.
Understanding of parts inventory systems, material handling, and procurement coordination.
Ability to clearly communicate technical issues and recommendations with engineers and cross-functional teams.
Proficient in assembling complex power generation systems and diagnosing system-level faults.
Skilled in welding prototype components according to engineering specifications.
Strong troubleshooting skills during prototype builds, system testing, and operational evaluations.
Competent in using load banks, shop tools, and test equipment for evaluation and validation.
Capable of mentoring junior technicians and providing guidance on technical procedures.
Skilled in supporting project timelines, material logistics, and cross-departmental collaboration.
Ability to read, understand, and apply technical drawings using GD&T.
Capable of providing constructive feedback during design reviews and identifying improvements.
Able to function autonomously while maintaining close coordination with engineering and production teams.
Ability to uphold a safe, organized, and efficient workspace, aligned with company safety standards.
Able to manage multiple responsibilities, from equipment assembly to testing and documentation.
Effectively act as a bridge between engineering development and other departments during testing and product rollout.
Demonstrates consistent adherence to and enforcement of all safety requirements and protocols.
Must be able to fluently speak, write, and read in English.
