Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Senior QA Automation Tester / SDET with minimum 10+ years of experience in integration testing and test automation, who brings a genuine automation-first mindset rather than viewing automation as a secondary activity. The ideal candidate has strong hands-on experience in UI and API automation, programming, test framework design, and test management, along with the ability to guide and mentor QA engineers.

The candidate should be comfortable working in an Agile environment and should have a strong understanding of modern testing practices, including API-first testing, automation strategy, and AI/GenAI-assisted software testing and should actively champion automation as the default approach to quality engineering across the team.

Key Responsibilities

Automation Mindset & Strategy

  • Champion an automation-first, shift-left testing culture across the team proactively identifying manual, repetitive, or high-risk areas for automation rather than treating automation as an afterthought.
  • Define and implement overall test automation strategies, tooling roadmaps, and governance across applications and services.
  • Establish testing approaches, processes, standards, and best practices that make automation the default path for regression, functional, and API coverage.
  • Track and report automation ROI - automation coverage %, execution time saved, and reduction in manual effort to continuously justify and expand automation investment.

Test Automation

  • Develop automated tests for web applications using modern automation frameworks such as Playwright (Selenium, UFT experience also valued).
  • Develop and execute API tests using Postman, REST Assured, or other API testing tools/frameworks.
  • Apply an API-first testing approach, ensuring APIs are adequately tested throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Design test scenarios covering functional, integration, negative, contract, regression, and end-to-end testing.
  • Demonstrate strong programming skills to build maintainable, reusable, and scalable automation solutions, including component libraries and utilities that reduce future test-authoring effort.

AI/GenAI-Enabled Testing

  • Evaluate and implement AI/GenAI capabilities in software testing e.g., generating automated test scripts from manual/Zephyr test cases, self-healing tests that adapt to UI changes, flaky-test detection, and change-impact analysis to improve test creation, maintenance, and productivity.
  • Stay current with emerging AI-based testing tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, LLM-assisted script generation) and drive their adoption within the team.

CI/CD, Governance & Quality Metrics

  • Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and support continuous testing practices.
  • Define and monitor test execution, defect management, and quality metrics/dashboards using appropriate Test Management tools.

Collaboration, Agile & Mentorship

  • Work closely with Developers, Product Owners, Architects, and other stakeholders to ensure quality is built into the software development lifecycle.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to estimation, planning, refinement, retrospectives, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to automation developers, including upskilling manual testers toward automation-first practices.
  • Identify opportunities to improve test coverage, automation effectiveness, and overall testing efficiency.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in Software Quality Assurance, Test Automation, or Software Development in Test (SDET).
  • Strong hands-on experience in both manual and automated testing, with a demonstrated bias toward automating repeatable work.
  • Strong experience with integration testing.
  • Strong experience in UI and API testing.
  • Strong experience with modern UI automation frameworks.
  • Experience with Postman or other API testing tools/frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of different API testing types and approaches.
  • Proven experience designing and implementing automation frameworks from the ground up (architecture, not just script authoring).
  • Good understanding of API-first development and testing.
  • Experience working with Test Management and Defect Management tools (e.g., JIRA, Zephyr, ALM).
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
  • Experience with CI/CD and integration of automated testing into development pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab, Azure DevOps).
  • Practical, hands-on experience applying AI/GenAI capabilities in software testing and automation.
  • Ability to mentor and provide technical direction to other QA engineers.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Demonstrated track record of increasing automation coverage or reducing manual test effort in prior roles, backed by measurable outcomes.

Good to Have

  • Experience with Performance Testing and performance testing tools (JMeter, ReadyAPI, WebLOAD, Neoload).
  • Knowledge of Selenium and experience working with Selenium-based automation frameworks.
  • Experience with API contract testing and/or service virtualization (e.g., Pact, WireMock).
  • Experience with tools such as REST Assured, Karate, Pact, or similar API testing technologies.
  • Experience with cloud-based and containerized test execution environments for scalable, parallel execution.
  • Broader exposure to DevOps and CI/CD tooling.
  • Good understanding of TDD/BDD approaches, microservices, and micro-frontend testing.
  • Experience with programming skills in at least one language such as Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, or C#.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Demonstrated mentoring and technical leadership capabilities.
  • Strong collaboration skills across development, QA, product, and architecture teams.
  • Prior hands-on experience in manual and functional testing.
