How can you make an impact?
McGraw Hill, the leading provider of digital and print educational resources, is looking for a Director of Product Operations who is responsible for designing, governing, and continuously improving the Product organization's operating system. This leader partners closely with Product, Engineering, UX, PMO, GTM, and Senior Leadership to create the structures, processes, operating rhythms, and visibility necessary to scale delivery across a complex portfolio. The Director of Product Operations owns the mechanisms that connect strategy to execution, ensuring that prioritization decisions are transparent, roadmaps remain aligned, dependencies are proactively managed, and stakeholders have clear visibility into organizational commitments and outcomes. This role is both strategic and operational. Success requires strong systems thinking, operational leadership, organizational influence, and a relentless focus on simplification and scalability.

This is a remote position open to applicants authorized to work for any employer within the United States.

What you will be doing:

  • Define and evolve the Product operating model by establishing scalable frameworks for intake, prioritization, planning, roadmap management, governance, and delivery visibility across Product, Engineering, UX, and GTM functions.
  • Lead portfolio planning and prioritization by operationalizing strategic priorities, balancing customer needs, business objectives, capacity constraints, and dependencies across both continuous and quarterly planning cycles.
  • Develop governance structures that improve transparency, accountability, and decision quality, while facilitating leadership discussions around priorities, risks, capacity, and roadmap alignment.
  • Drive organizational clarity around ownership, decision-making, and execution processes, reducing operational friction by simplifying workflows and eliminating redundant coordination.
  • Build and monitor operational health systems that provide visibility into roadmap progress, delivery predictability, dependency management, and organizational effectiveness through key metrics and data-driven insights.
  • Establish executive-level reporting and self-service visibility into priorities, commitments, delivery status, risks, and dependencies to support strategic decision-making across all stakeholder levels.
  • Leverage AI, automation, and modern operational practices to drive continuous improvement, increase efficiency, reduce manual work, and improve overall execution quality and organizational scalability.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing Product Operations team, coaching managers and members to build operational maturity, foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and innovation, and scale organizational capabilities long-term.

We’re looking for someone with:

  • Bachelor's degree and 10+ years of experience in Product Operations, Program/Portfolio Management, PMO, or related operational leadership roles.
  • 7+ years of progressive people leadership, including managing managers and building high-performing teams.
  • Demonstrated success designing, scaling, and evolving operating models, governance frameworks, and planning processes within complex product and technology organizations.
  • Experience leading cross-functional planning, prioritization, and portfolio management processes across large, matrixed organizations.
  • Strong understanding of product development, agile delivery, and organizational planning practices.
  • Proven ability to influence senior leaders, drive alignment across diverse stakeholder groups, and lead organizational change and operational transformation initiatives.
  • Strong analytical, communication, facilitation, and decision-making skills, with demonstrated ability to leverage AI and automation to improve organizational effectiveness.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
