As a Sr Fiber Splicer, you will be a key technical leader in the field, responsible for the end-to-end construction, optimization, and troubleshooting of complex fiber optic networks. You’ll bring deep expertise, mentor team members, and ensure every project meets the highest standards of quality, safety, and performance.
Responsibilities
As a Sr Fiber Splicer, you will not only execute advanced splicing work, you will also help define how it gets done.
In addition, you will:
- Lead and perform advanced fiber optic splicing, testing, and troubleshooting across large-scale network builds and restoration projects
- Serve as the on-site technical expert for fiber continuity, loss budgets, and network performance optimization
- Operate and interpret results from advanced test equipment, including OTDR (1310/1550), DWDM/CWDM systems, OLTS (945), MaxTester, and optical power meters
- Design-level understanding of fiber networks, including interpreting splice documentation, fiber schematics, and engineering prints
- Pre-stage, prep, and optimize fiber splice enclosures (Tyco, CommScope, Corning, and similar platforms)
- Diagnose and resolve complex network issues involving signal degradation, high dB loss, and continuity failures
- Support and guide junior and mid-level technicians in best practices, safety procedures, and technical execution
- Ensure all work aligns with engineering specifications, customer requirements, and industry standards
- Work in active outdoor utility construction environments, including aerial (bucket truck/lift) and underground systems
- Participate in project planning discussions and provide field-level feedback to engineering and project management teams
Qualifications
About You:
- 5+ years of progressive experience in fiber splicing, testing, and network troubleshooting (or equivalent senior-level field expertise)
- Proven ability to independently diagnose and resolve complex fiber network issues
- Strong understanding of fiber design principles, optical loss budgets, and network architecture
- Experience working with high-density fiber networks and multiple splice enclosure platforms
- Demonstrated leadership in field environments, including mentoring or training technicians
- Commitment to safety as a core operating principle
- Strong quality control mindset with a history of delivering precise, reliable work
- Comfort working at heights, on ladders, and in bucket trucks across varying environmental conditions
- Ability to manage multiple priorities on long-term infrastructure projects
- Flexibility to work varied shifts, overtime, and project-based schedules
- You have a valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a DOT Med card for driving purposes (Applicants are subject to an MVR review and must meet company standards for a safe driving record)
- This is a travel, temporary position

Additional details:
- Overtime pay will be provided in accordance with California labor laws, at 1.5 times the regular hourly rate for hours worked over 8 hours in a day or 40 hours in a workweek
- The schedule is typically 6 days per week, 10-12 hours per day; Crews may travel one week at a time, occasionally extended stays up to two weeks before returning home for a break
- Per diem includes hotel + $50 for food
- Rest and Meal Breaks will be compensated for paid rest periods and granted unpaid meal breaks in accordance with California labor laws
- Your employment with MasTec is “at-will,” meaning either you or the company may terminate the employment relationship at any time, with or without cause or notice
